I was out of Joes by the time Tiger Force hit and swore I'd never have anything to do with that or Python Patrol. Of course now I have 2 Tiger force figures and a couple Python Patrol... Lousy Hasbro... |

Conceptwise, Tiger Force was the Joe team jungle combat/survival specialists (hence the name Tiger). The camo pattern was to blend into the jungle.
They did appear in the comics, a single issue of G.I. Joe Special Missions in the Marvel run. The funny thing, in the comic issue they weren't in the jungle, they were in the city.
Now why the line included Frostbite, that I don't know. But the idea was to create a force of Joe Jungle Fighters.

Some of those vintage TF figures are just horrendous. |

Some of those vintage TF figures are just horrendous. | Well, Tigers blend in pretty well to the Jungle. And in a lot of environments Jungle aren't always consistently green. I'll admit, it's a bit of a stretch.
I suppose the concept of a Jungle Team for G.I. Joe appealed to me so much that I ignored, or overlooked, what they lacked in execution. Some of the figures were pretty good: Flint, Recondo, Duke, Roadblock. Bazooka was cool to see in different colors.
I sort of used the Python Patrol idea that the Tiger paint made them invisible to radar. But for me, Tiger Force is permanently stationed in Sierra Gordo (the fictional South American Country in the old Marvel comic). That's the permanent G.I. Joe presence in South America, like the 7th Special Forces Group in Columbia during the 80's.
I think G.I. Joe needs a Jungle Team - and if you can get past some of the colors, and just go with the concept, Tiger Force is pretty cool.

Why a jungle troop would need an attack jet.....
