For those huge Beachhead fans out there, I apologize, but I feel compelled to point out what, to me, is an example of accidental marketing and exposure MAKING a character.
Beachhead is not hugely important. He's not the 4th in command of the GI Joe team. He's a Staff Sergeant. An E-6. About two or more DOZEN incidental Joes, many of which BH fans have never heard of, outrank him. Some of these include- Falcon Windmill Ace Wild Bill Cutter Ghost Rider Gung Ho Leatherneck Shipwreck (to reiterate) SHIPWRECK Super Trooper Major Storm Colonel Courage Psyche-Out Torpedo Lift-Ticket And many others. WHY is Beachhead so popular? Beach Head barely had any speaking parts in his initial comic book appearances. His rank isn't particularly high. His figure was one of the least interesting (IMHO) of the 1986 line. (I kept trying not to buy him, but time after time I would go back to the store and he'd be the only Joe on the pegs). 1. Beachhead has become the "Joe Firefly." Not because of who he is or his specialty. Indeed, there are MANY other Rangers on the team. Beachhead simply has a very similar uniform to Firefly, with only the colors and certain pieces of gear differing substantially. 2. Beachhead was (for no apparent reason) named by Flint in that early scene from ARISE SERPENTOR ARISE as #4. Why? Who knows. However, based PURELY on that short UNBELIEVEABLY CHEESILY EXPOSITORY bit from that episode ("First comes Hawk, then Duke, THEN ME, and then finally, you.") which was clearly stuffed in to explain who TF the new guys were, about a million nerds decided that this essentially offhand comment, nailed down so succinctly, would be canon. Beachhead is no one special. In the cartoons, he was the guy that trained new recruits in 1987 and couldn't keep Duke's brother in line. Tunnel Rat and Big Lob made him lose his temper. Chuckles didn't listen to him AT ALL. Order almost killed him. Jinx beat the crap out of him. Blindfolded. If you like Beachhead, that's fine. More power to you. I like him fine now. However, I hate revisionist history, so I'm here to tell it like it is: A middle enlisted man is, in the grand scheme of things, not particularly high on the totem pole. If GI Joe is basically the same thing as Ninja Turtles to you, then surf on and eat some pizza. Thanks for your time.

Okay well I am one of those big Beachhead fans and I think he is one of the best Joe's that the comics never use enough. As for the cartoon ranking we all know they are way off. Hell Flint out ranks Duke and Falcon out ranks them both. If I were running GI Joe I would rank leadership like this.
Officers ~~ Flagg Colton Hawk Falcon Flint Enlisted ~~ Duke Stalker Gung Ho Beachhead If things were done this way I think more people could have a better respect for Beachhead. |

Most collectors back in the day thought that BeachHead was cool because
Some stupid kid would be like, "Hey look! It's BeachHead, the ninja." Yes, even in those days, any kid thought that troopers who wear balaclavas are presumably "NINJA". palm slapping ensues. |

Beachhead was always the trainer for me and I never had anything against him. He was up there with Stalker in my ranks.
Colton Hawk Duke Flint Stalker Beachhead Falcon Slaughter

I don't really remember a whole lot about the cartoon version of Beachhead but the "official" file card version is pretty bad ass. Also the file card version doesn't get angry because he believes getting angry is a waste of time and energy. So obviously there are two different versions of Beachhead. What ultimately made him cool to me was the balaclava and that he was a ranger.

hes a ranger and thats bad ass enough
and e6 is a pay grade, if his duty poisition is stated as something above rank and grade then so be it,(it can happen) joe is hodgepodge of all branches/services, and they dont seem to follow the traditional military format for anything! |

Beachhead has always been my favorite GI Joe character,it doesn't matter if he is 4th in command.I love the character, because he's a disciplinarian. Also,I don't see any comparison to Firefly just for the mask.Beachhead is not a saboteur.

I think it's official for the cartoon... There are other episodes that make it seem like Beachhead has authority...
Besides GI Joe has a messed up command structure especially in the cartoon... General -> Sargent -> Warrant Officer???
