So I sat and looked at some of my original Joeverse and decided that I didn't like where it was headed. So I thought that maybe it would be a better idea to start it from scratch. I have had some time to think about it, and I came upon a thought... "What if I had to lay the groundwork for the movie?"... Well, I thought long and hard about it, and I have to say- It would take some work. But tell me how you feel about this...
G.I.-J.O.E. (Government Initiative- Joint Operations Elite) is an organization that does not exist. Even the President is unaware of this organization. Members are hand-selected by the Joint Chiefs and erased from existence. All members of the team are dead men walking. Government databases are purged of any records detailing anything beyond death. They surrender their lives for the sake of Freedom and National Security. The Team: Duke: Aptly named for his fondness of John Wayne films (and his almost impeccable impersonation thereof), Duke is a veteran of Bosnia, Iraq, Somalia, and Afghanistan. Despite official records declaring him KIA as a Sergeant First Class, Duke was posthumously promoted to First Sergeant (as he fulfilled the role of acting First Sergeant during his final mission, the actual First Sergeant was "ill and suffering from knee pain" at the FOB). For the last several years, Duke has been helping assemble a unit of the best the US Military has to offer. Duke's personality is not a cliche' "Boy Scout" as seen in previous incarnations. He is a rough-and-tumble, hard-nosed, and rough-spoken leader who isn't afraid to get his hands dirty. He motivates others around him (it has been said he could drive Ghandi to fix a bayonet and charge a bunker full of kittens) and has a fair and unbiased approach to everything. His leadership style and attitude are almost like that of an experienced WW2 Sergeant, with all the grit and guts to go with it. Gear: M4 W/203 mount, Colt 1911, and Ka-Bar fighting knife. Uniform: Multicam fatigues with a vest similar to that seen in Resolute, Wiley-X sunglasses. Snake Eyes: Snake Eyes was well on his way to become an "Operator" early in his career. He was pulled from Special Forces school and sent on several (undocumented) ops throughout Afghanistan, Iran, Yemen, and Pakistan. He has cross trained with several branches and was exposed to raw combat before he turned 20 years of age. On a routine "snatch and grab" somewhere on Pakistani/Afghan border, the Blackhawk helicopter carrying his squad was shot down. Snake Eyes survived the crash, only to be captured and tortured for 3 weeks by an unknown group of terrorists. Barely clinging to life, Snake Eyes fought his way out of a system of caves- with a knife. When he was discovered at the threshold of death in a puddle of his own blood, Hawk determined that the soldier was to be found "dead" and had him flown to an undisclosed location where he could be treated. Despite the best efforts of the surgical staff, Snake Eyes' massive number of scars from multiple lascerations are still very visible, and the damage to his throat has rendered him incapable of normal speech. Most importantly, there is great concern for the severity of his Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The savagery of his combat actions on the day of his escape show not only his expertise in close combat, but a potential for violence that most human beings of sound mind lack. Snake Eyes is not a ninja, as seen before. He is, however, an expert in close quarters combat. He is extremely proficient in Sambo, Krav Maga, MCMAP ("Semper Fu"), US Army Combatives, Escrima, Tae Kwon Do, Muay Thai, Akido, and several other martial arts (note- he was etremely proficient in most of them prior to enlisting). Snake Eyes is "creepy" to most of his teammates; although Scarlett's sympathy for him has made her his unofficial "battle buddy" and when she accompanies him, it puts others at ease. Gear: H&K MP7, FN Five-seveN pistol, Gerber Mark 2 fighting knife w/shoulder harness, several smaller concealed knives. Uniform: "City Strike", albeit with greyscale Multicam trousers (If you guys like this one, I'll keep going and get to some good stuff. Opinions are welcome... and character "commisions" are as well.) |

I like it man! I love your line about Duke leading Ghandi to kill the kittens. It reminded me of something Hama would put on a file card! Keep it up! I'll read 'em!

If you are coughing like that, maybe Lifeline is the guy you need to see.
Lifeline: Lifeline started his military career to get a Jump-Start on a medical profession, and had already grown weary of being an EMT in the more "suburban" areas around Seattle. After completing 4 years as a combat medic and using what little off-duty time he could to take college course, he had proven himself more than capable of handling any casualty... and was still short several credit hours. He re-enlisted and found himself in some of the worst fighting in Iraq. He had an uncanny knack for putting soldiers back together, and was still able to fight off the enemy (he was known for using a 9mm to take out an Insurgent, treat the wounded Soldier, then treat the insurgent he'd shot and gather valuable intel while saving the life of the enemy). Lifeline's attitude towards medical care is more "Dr. House" than "Compassionate Caregiver". He often uses humorous and (jokingly) disparaging remarks against describe wounded who have a low pain tolerance (which works to motivate them, somehow). He is known to have an old-school approach to medical problems (he refuses to hand out foot spray and insists that anyone with athlete's foot urinate on their feet in the shower, and has shoved tampons in bullet wounds). He has also been reprimanded for diagnosing some of his more "difficult" team members with Down's Syndrome, and once had (a very cranky and sore) General Hawk referred to an OB/GYN because "the old man was griping like he was going through menopause". Despite his unorthodox approach to medical care, Lifeline earns his codename though his ability to do everything short of bring back the dead. He has used the most basic and crude items available to perform field surgery (Vodka, a sewing kit, a Multitool, and a Combat knife), and can outperform the most experienced Military Doctors. He is also proficient in Psychiatry and Dental care, and he will never back down from anything that ails a Joe- to the extent where most of his superiors are convinced that "If a Joe dies, he'd go to hell and bring them back- and be able to treat the burns". Equipment: Medical kit (modified), 9mm Beretta, Gerber Multitool. Uniform: Similar to his normal, albeit in ACU patterned camo. |
