I was considering getting some of my higher end MOC items graded. What has been some your experiences with getting your items graded ? Do you think they are accurate ? Have you noticed any inconsistency's ? Heres what I was gonna start with .
Sorry for glare was a quickie photo . |

from just the quick glance i believe those will grade an 85. they are some what consistent. but lately they have been very anal on there grading. i have an afa 85 blowtorch that i feel and most others feel should have graded a 90 but came back all 85 subs and a 85 overall grade , their reason for the 85 grade was a smal soft corner on the bottom right

It's a waste of money. You're paying an incredibly high price for a cheap plexi-glass case and some strangers opinion.

While I don't personally use AFA, I think it does look cool to have your figures displayed in the cases (just see Fire_Fly's threads) and is not a detriment to the hobby as opposed to the comics grading (CGC).
Honestly it is up to you on how,why and what you collect and how you choose to display and store your collection. Either way, you got some sweet figures there man. Good luck and let us know how it goes for you. |

I say send them in for grading.
If you want to keep your figures, AFA protects the figures with acrylic cases. These cases protect your figures from damage & the elements. If you want to sell your figures, getting them graded will bring you more $ than selling them MOSC. Most of the time AFA gets it right. However, there will always be a case where the person feels the figure should have received a higher overall grade. Nice Snake-Eyes'! Too bad they aren't U.S. versions. See I would think these would be higher than 85, they are un-punched and not a flaw on the card. I guess when it comes down to it I would just end up pissed off if they get low grades. I have all the Snake-Eyes carded but the swivel arm , just thought these were cheap when I bought them 10yrs ago and I have 2. Just want to test the waters.

The main thing I would check for are any creases or stress lines in the card. Most of the time there is a factory bubble stress line. When the bubble was glued to the card, the factory machine's pressure would create these stress lines. So check the back of the cards around where the bubble is on the front. Also, I would look for price stickers. I can't see if you have any on the back. AFA claims that stickers will not affect the grade unless they are damaged or placed directly over the cover art. Then check the edges & corners for damage. Next I would check the bubbles for clearness/dents/cracks/stress lines. If the bubbles just have light scuffs & scratches, they should get 85 grades. Last I would check the figures for damage. Turn the card upside down and lightly shake the figure back & forth. If the legs move a lot, the o-ring might be ready to break. There is also paint flaws to look for. Sometimes the figures paint will change color. Good luck. |

OK, these weirdos grade paint consistency's ? Or just if its become changed from age ? I'm starting to think 85 is their umbrella grade. Anything above 85 is tough to get then I would imagine . I've heard they are in the back pockets of some of the bigger advertisers in Lees and Tomarts too. I guess when you've got the grding world monopolized you can do that though.

I have seen figures that received this overall grade: AFA 80 with 85 card, 85 bubble, 80 figure Yes, less than 10% of all graded figures get a 90 or higher. There are many rumors regarding AFA and Cloud City. I choose not to concern myself with the rumors. |
