The 1987 line became a little too fantastical with Crystal Ball, Raptor, Croc Master; however, I never really disliked any of them. If I had to choose one of them, it'd be Raptor--kinda lame. I like Cobra La, particulary Pythona, Nemesis Enforcer, and the Royal Guards. Golobulus' snake body is ridiculous and over-the-top, but still, for creative purposes, I don't mind so much. However, I have to agree with earlier posts that Gung-Ho v.2 was always awkard when playing with the figures. I had no place for him. Yet, the most ridiculous figure to me was The Fridge. Who the hell needs this guy? And how many more freaking Snake-eyes and Storm Shadows do we need for the 25th line anyway?

Man, you guys are just ripping on the '87 figures when there were way more lame creations that came out in the '91-'94 years. Big Boa was a Cobra Trainer that made sure the Cobra's were in top shape. Why's that so lame? He's the Cobra Drill Instructor, if you will. Croc Master, okay he was funky, but I liked him. Crystal Ball and Psyche-Out were fine because it showed that both the Joes and Cobra were using mind tricks and psychological warfare in their war (many people don't think of psychological warfare in war times....but it has always been a major weapon in any war). Gung Ho in his dress blues...guess I am in the minority on this one but that figure kicked ass. Yeah, he may not be on the battlefield, but who cares? Raptor however was lame I guess (but I'd still buy an updated one by Hasbro)!
Anyways, no figures from '87 are even remotely as bad as some of the crap that came out in the last few years of the line ('92-'94). I'll have to study YoeJoe to come up with my lamest Joe and Cobra figures ever.

Do you guys know this about Crystal Ball? He is actually a figure that the famous Horror Novelist, Stephen King, came up with (the Shining, Carrie, Cujo etc.) Just some random fact I read in a Joe figure collectors book.

I loved the concept, but couldnt understand why they used such crap neon colors when the V2 Toxo-Viper was in such a subdued paint scheme.
(did I mention I am troop building him?)
Top of my list, right out of the blue would be Raptor.
Oh yeah, forgot about the Fridge.

I will agree with you on this however I was thinking back to when I still actually played with GI Joe and not just collected them. '92-'94 I was in college and (gulp) wouldn't be caught buying actiuon figures. That is why I didn't even bring those years up. I mean the Joes had Dino Hunters.
Both the Fridge and Sgt Slaughter were horrible tie ins (imho)
....and knowing is half theYo Joe!

the worst figures, and the figures who killed off G.I. Joe both in comic and toys for a long time were the stupid ninja force.
i like cobra la, raptor (although hama made him lame in the comic) and even crystal ball. i guess i was younger then some on here who were old enough to think they were dumb because they looked different, to me a guy with fake wings was cool. i didnt read the comic back then so hama's raptor didnt hurt them either. i love the movie so cobra la were awesome to me, even though golobus wasnt very playable.

Yep, Raptor was useless, and Crystal Ball was more then lame, he was a cheep-shot that removes the darker aspects of interrogation (why have all the fun of inhumane torture, when you can just wave a shinny coin in front of their eyes).
I did not like Serpentor & Cobra-La as they where the product of executive meddling. Cobra Commander was established as the supreme ruler of Cobra, but then Hasbro Executive wanted a Cobra Emperor. At the time, Buzz Dixon (a story editor and writer for the cartoon and movie) was trying to write The Most Dangerous Man in the World story arc (third question down on the following link) that would have added some good political intrigue to the show. He made Serpentor as a super-clone so he can carry on with the arc, but this was shafted when Hasbro wanted an organization that commanded Cobra!
I also hate the G.I. Joe line back in the 90's with all of the bright, flashy neon/pastel colors. I know it was a time of "don't ask, dot tell", but soldiers running around with a lavender-colored rifles and a pink pistols is pushing it just a bit! In truth, this was the result of parental watch-dog groups not wanting their kid to have or even see any war toys. So turning a normal looking AKA-47 to a lime-green color is seen as a normal way to take an offensive image of death & destruction into a none-offensive ray-gun... er... (can use gun) blaster... (still sounds to violent!) zapper! Yes, a zapper! The 90's also had the Eco-Warriors. They could not use the name The Planeteers as an equally sucky group already had it. G.I. Joes in Space is just an other retarded idea!

Well I agree some what about Ninja Force. I like ninjas, I liked the characters, but HATED the spring action crap. I also hated the name Ninja Force, why they couldn't be referred to as the ninja team I'll never know. The spring action is what killed these for me. I could pose them in more realistic martial arts stances with normal Joe construction, the spring thing ruined the articulation and playability.
In my opinion, this is kinda off subject but, the downfall of the line IMHO was G.I. Joe strayed off their original concept. I mean Captain Planet gets big so out comes Eco Warriors. Morphin Rangers and other space movies come out so Joe's now have to fight aliens. Now Joe vs Cobra in space I'm fine with but aliens? Then Jurassic Park comes out and we have Dino-hunters. They were straight up military and all of a sudden the Joes are all over the board and splintered their following. Combine this with the hideous neon colors and the line goes dormant for years.
But to answer the original question:
Joes: Battle force 2000
Cobra: Cobra La....Nemesis Enforcer was badass in the movie but his figure sucked, Golobulus plain sucked, and royal guard...meh

i agree with malcadon. anything post 1991 -- including half of 1991 -- should be exponged. the only reason i liked 1991 was for big ben and cg v2. all of the water pistols, voice boxes, rubber band loaders, gliders, etc, were super lame.
