We lost chiefs and higher ranking personnel left and right....
so there was always someone new coming in and the new guy ALWAYS had something to add to "improve" our work ethics and basically be a pain in our butts.
sounds like Beachhead...
those cookies and brownies always tasted extra sweet though.

ok ok ill add falcon into the mix to be fair and yes ill look look up this filecard to read it, and answer another tankers statment i have added both officer and enlisted men due to the fact the tanker want me to add them, i asked who you think would lead and based on rank, my poll will be on who we think would step up. i guess also to be fair ill add another as someone stated someone new would come in not one of joes we know. so yes sralett and beachhead may seem off but are still a force in the joe world if time did pass and we lost duke and hawk and yes even flagg is gone as he was old then

It appears that the Hasbro concept of the Joes is that the team picks the best or most qualified operative available. That means if Hawk deems Duke as the best man for the mission, given his history of colourful and well-decorated tours of duties, Duke gets top card.
Another example, Sgt. Slaughter gets Gen. Hawk to run with the Joes during PT because Slaughter was given a task to train all Joes. Hawk being a Joe himself must submit to the requirements of Slaughter.
Hence the idea of Duke being team leader who uses the talents of an officer like Ace during a mission.
At least that's how I see it.

Stalker would make a great leader and plenty of experience.
The time has come for the Cobra to rise up and reveal himself. You will call me... Commander!

I imagine that on a special ops team like the Joes, rank and protocol are probably quite a bit more flexible than in a standard military unit. But that doesn't mean that a sergeant is given command over a bunch of officers on any kind of permanent basis. Guys like Flint and Falcon, both of whom outrank Duke, would rely on Duke's experience and value his opinion and input, but they wouldn't take orders from him. Senior NCOs like Duke, Stalker, Beachhead, Gung Ho and Shipwreck would be the backbone of the team and would have varying levels of leadership responsibility but would not be given command of the team as a whole.
