I'm not sure if one can really label Cobra as a rip off of Hydra though. The idea of the Joe team was something Hama came up with as purely as a comic book. (different names, etc. I saw sketches years ago) c. 1980. and virtually all the villianous groups in comics and toys from the 80's, they all seemed alike. Hama's original idea was for the Joes to be called Fury Force and be part of Shield fighting Hydra.

I remember a movie poster in the 80's or early 90's... That's actually some successful action names there... why hadn't I heard of this movie before? Hey, guys, we should check this out... "I really thought Steve McQueen was dead?" I need to find this... Go! Go! Googlehand! . . . . . . . Mike Norris, Don Swayze, Chad McQueen... couldn't stop laughing. LOL Oh my god Billy Drago should have been the selling point of that film he plays a great bad guy. |

Oh there really are no NEW ideas, trust me as a would be writer if you look hard enough you can trace characters and story arcs back again and again.
Homer Simpson and Peter Griffin have traces of Archie Bunker, Archie himself has traces of Ralph Kramden, Ralph shares traits with Walter Mitty who is in himself a take on the archtype of The Dreamer. Star Wars is taken from several sources, Saturday Serial films, Japanese films...hell some even say its a take from The Wizard of Oz. Wrestlers do this as well, Shawn Michaels patterened his personna from Ric Flair, Ric got his fameous 'Chops' from Wahoo McDaniels...and so on. And even today John Morrison reminds me very much of Michaels in the 90's. Point is no matter how a property is spun odds are its basically taken from something else, to some degree. I love the online Cracked lists, though. It's cool that they do their homework!
