I always liked Lifeline as a figure, and Doc could use the help, but I somehow suppressed the memory of how big a worthless douche he was in season 2. Rewatching them last week I was dumbfounded by the number of times he was in a critical situation and refused to act. In one episode a giant serpent is about to devour him and several teammates and rather than grab a rifle he spouts out another diatribe about how he can't use violence. Had I been his C.O. I would have shot him in the head the first time we were in a battle and he started blubbering about non-violence. As far as G.I. Joes go, Lifeline would make a great Care Bear (until bad thoughts threatened the Castle of Caring and he refused to use the Care Bear Stare to save his home and family).
Even stoned out hippie Footloose would pull a trigger when the team needed him. Lifeline's pacifism probably caused more deaths than his combat medic skills prevented. |

Pogue Colonel: Marine, what is that button on your body armor?
Private Joker: A peace symbol, sir. Pogue Colonel: Where'd you get it? Private Joker: I don't remember, sir. Pogue Colonel: What is that you've got written on your helmet? Private Joker: "Born to Kill", sir. Pogue Colonel: You write "Born to Kill" on your helmet and you wear a peace button. What's that supposed to be, some kind of sick joke? Private Joker: No, sir. Pogue Colonel: You'd better get your head and your ass wired together, or I will take a giant shit on you. Private Joker: Yes, sir. Pogue Colonel: Now answer my question or you'll be standing tall before the man. Private Joker: I think I was trying to suggest something about the duality of man, sir. Pogue Colonel: The what? Private Joker: The duality of man. The Jungian thing, sir. Pogue Colonel: Whose side are you on, son? Private Joker: Our side, sir. Pogue Colonel: Don't you love your country? Private Joker: Yes, sir. Pogue Colonel: Then how about getting with the program? Why don't you jump on the team and come on in for the big win? Private Joker: Yes, sir. Pogue Colonel: Son, all I've ever asked of my marines is that they obey my orders as they would the word of God. We are here to help the Vietnamese, because inside every gook there is an American trying to get out. It's a hardball world, son. We've gotta keep our heads until this peace craze blows over. Private Joker: Aye-aye, sir.

I don't get how Lifeline won't grab the butt of a rifle to get pulled out of quicksand, but he'll ride in an armed chopper. Huh?

The fig came with a .45 that just shows how bad those old toons really are. Don't understand how some ppl can consider Sunbow canon. That being said, "to each his own."

I think the cartoon went too far with the pacifism. In the comics, even Doc made it clear he wasn't allowed to carry a gun - but he did stand with his team in combat, throwing snow balls at Destro! Lifeline, in Special Missions, did fight the Oktober Guard, but it was clear he was using martial arts to redirect the enemies energy back towards themselves. Lifeline got a bad wrap in the cartoon, but Doc was just as much playing by the rules. Sparks, in DDP, was the truly odd bird!
