I finally got the renovations done on my new Joe room, and was looking into building a huge glassed in display case for my Joe vehicles. I'd like to have it so that I could fit my Terror Drome in the cabinet, and arrange the shelves by year.
I was just wondering if anyone had any advice or plans etc, as I'm by no means a carpenter? Has anyone built something like this themselves? |

If you have no carpentry skills, then don't attempt to build your own. Cabinetry is not the easiest thing in the world to do. Go out and buy 'em. Go to unfinished wood stores, staining is easy to do on your own.
Home Depot and Lowes should have idea books kicking around. Or look in the "Do-It-Yourself" section at Borders for cabinet ideas.

If you want it big enough to house a Terror drome, then it's gonna be huge! Definately listen to what Troynos said, it sounds like you'll need help with such an ambitious project

i tried it, i found out afterwards it would have been cheaper to just buy one (and looked nicer too).

Look in your area for local cabinet makers, some Home Depots will also do cabinet work (my mom's ex got some counters and cabinets made for his store based on a layout/design I did done for him at Home Depot).
Go in and talk to them. They're the experts. Describe what you want and they should work up a design for you. Now, going to a local cabinet guy will probably be more costly but it'll get done the right way. The best idea is to do two depths of cabinet. The bottom one, to hold a Terror Drome with no room around it would probably be about 3' deep and about 3' high. Most cabinets are done in lengths of 3', so keep that in mind. Typical ceilings are 8'. So that would leave 5' of upper cabinet to divide into shelves. This is where it gets interesting.. How do you want to display them? Do you want to do diorama displays or just have them standing in rows? And if in rows, are the back rows going to be higher then the front? What I'd do is leave about 1 foot before you do the first shelf in the upper cabinet). I'd make those about 1'-6" deep (18 inches, the Tiger Rat is about 17" deep). This would give you a flat surface above the Terror Drome cabinet that is about 1'-6" deep and clear for 12" high. Can do dios or just leave it open, but gives you set-up/display/play space.

Thanks for everyone's replies! I think I'll start by going to Home Depot, and seeing what they can do for me.

if you can buy a display case big enough to hold your vehicles, i would recommend going that route unless your good at building stuff.
