I'm of the mind that from 82 until 92 the line as a whole was solid. I loved the fact that you had
Such character diversity. Easily the top appeal of the line for me. I agree that some characters were not as cool as others (ie Sneak Peek,Scoop)but still enjoyed
The depth of the Joe/Cobra rosters. My gripe starts with the re-coloring and rehashing of old characters/figures from 92-94.
I called it quits in 93 because I felt the line was lazy at best and on its way out. Plus I just couldn't get into GI Joe vs Alien creatures all that much
That's the line I had to draw. I lived through the abomination that was Cobra La and hung on,but Star Brigade was the line I couldn't cross. And I owned the Defiant! But 82-92 cannot be divided into different eras of greatness.

For me, the Sunbow series skips the movie (and the DiC series) and jumps ahead to the Transformers episodes with Marissa Fairborne and Old Snake.

87-92 was my childhood with GI Joe. DiC toon was what I grew up on, and then got introduced o the sunbow series a little later.
I have a special place in my heart for a lot of the 88-91 Joes, as those were the ones I got new. I had a lot of the previous ones from garage sales, etc, but the ones I got new in the package, like TF Duke and Flint, Scoop, Blizzard, Hardball, Hit-N-Run, Downtown, Night-Viper, Rock-N Roll v2, Backblast, Bullhorn, Freefall, Stretcher, Bullhorn, Pathfinder, Sonic Falcon, Topside, '90 Hawk (yeah, I know), Dusty & Sandstorm, Mercer, Desert Scorpion, CG Immortal, Alley Viper, Night Creeper... and my all time favorite as a kid, although I have a hard time knowing why now, the talking Hawk. I removed his backpack, and he was my favorite for a long time.

88-90 they're pretty much all fairly good, or at the least serviceable as characters.
Its really the 91-94 era that was a disappointment. And that was because of the colors and the spring loaded weapons were horrible.
however, take a character who didn't look to great - eg. Barricade - give him a reasonable colour scheme, and slightly modified gear and you have a perfectly acceptable joe.
The new characters from that era were (for the most part) quite good, but the toy designs were horrible. The same could be said for much of the new-sculpt era.

I ve collected over the whole series starting with the years 82-to present but i pick and choose out of the line who i want . The 1980s had my favorite people Duke,Flint,Cobra Commander, Destro and others . The 1990s had a few people i began to like Ambush.Pathfinder,Bullhorn,Rampart, and yes even Capt Gridiron lol. The 2000s there was not a very good year in my collecting there was a lot of cheap looking figures in the early 2002 -2003 it wasnt till 2004 that i got back into collecting my favorite people again .Then the 25th Anniversery arrived and i began collecting even more because it gave me a chance to get people i have wanted but never picked up before and it was like being a kid again ! The end of the Decade brought ROC into our lives and again i just pick and choose like i have always done . If you collect like me you shouldnt have any Completist or Finacial problems lol

i LOVED the night vipers and the alley vipers and hit n' run was one of my faves as well. i think if there had beeen a decent cartoon at the time, we might all like more characters from tis period. the comic helped me out with characters such as muskrat and so on. def and eco force were just lame. that's all that can be said about them. goor thread. i feel a lot of this era's toys are underrated.
IDW's continuation of Marvel and Hama's classic continuity continues AND is utilizing more modern toys. It outsells Transformers but needs more readers and letter hacks. firstname.lastname@example.org re:postbox:the pit. this canon is more than a fad, let's proove it.

I just bought someone's 1990 loose figure collection.
aside from the '87 Big Boa/Croc Master push... the 1990 series
(Bullhorn, Freefall, Can't-move-or-pee-in-this-thing Hawk)
is was what I REMEMBER playing with the most. using those figures
to make home movies etc.
I remember the christmas I got the '91 CC with the red mask...
I was so excited cuz I didn't even know it existed (or I had just never
seen it on shelves not sure which) but I was elated... I ripped his mask
off within seconds (no eyebrows)...
anyways... that era does resonate with me on lots of levels.
I love the sci-fi and lowlight figures... I loved the originals too so whenever I played with them... I was torn between pretending they co-existed and
pretending they were just really quick costume changers.

'89-'93-ish were my collecting years. I didn't get into any of the crappier figures. I loved '89 and '90. I had just about every vehicle and figure from those years. After '91 though, it was pick and choose for me. I got some of the remakes of figures like Bazooka and Duke. Never had a chance to get them before so for me they were all I had and I loved them.
