I loved watching GI Joe with my dad when I was little. My dad was in the air force and did a lot of things he would never tell me about.
The only thing he said was that he was SOG. and that he crashed a helicopter. So my imagination ran wild, I saw my dad in covert ops missions. Taking down enemy troops like he was Rambo (another favorite childhood hero) When GI Joe came along it just pulled me right in. These guys were so cool. Everyone trained hard to be where they were. And they always worked as a team. Noone got left behind. Even the leader got captured and his men valued him enough to risk their own lives to get him out. The bad guys were neat. Maniacs in costumes that would entice any kid to join them too. My father was a very moral driven man, and he instilled in me the same. The Joe team also embodied the same morals my dad taught me. My first Joe toy was the pullcord mini copter, I picked it out because the pilot Altitude looks like my father. One character always stood out to me though. And that was Shipwreck. I never did find the figure of him when I was a kid. But I did find one who was a sailor of sorts. He wore a blue shirt with a life vest and white pants with drawstrings. (his name is Topside) I than got a boat for him to drive. The Tiger Shark. but..yeah... Thats why I like GI Joe Last edited by Shipshape1983; 12-15-2009 at 12:25 AM.. |

If he didn't talk all the time droning on and on about nothing, I'd be more into his charecter!

He was my favorite as a kid(hence my name) back when he was pretty underused in the cartoon and used quite well as a member of a full cast in the comics.
He was definitely used way too much when it became the Snake Eyes comic, but that's also when thr whole line got silly and everyone seemed to be a ninja. As it is now, he's got to be out in the open since kids always like ninjas, and since his mask/knight visor combo is a unique look. Among all the Joes, he's gonna be the most recognizeable. It's a shame this didnt work its way to more ROC villains, since they've typically had the most iconic looks associated with the brand. It's a shame he's become a bit oversaturated, he worked really well back in the Commando days. |

Am I the only one whom likes the military aspect of Snake Eyes more-so than the Ninja aspect? Even in all of the comics, I prefer the many different characters over Snake Eyes because he was over used and transformed into a Ninja as the years went on.
I even like the Dreadnoks theme over the Ninja theme. I have nothing against Ninjas, but it was way overused in the '80s and '90s. Perhaps, the reason that dissolved the Marvel run was because of the over-hyped ninja sword brothers theme that was over bearing. Is it blasphemous to like G.I. Joe and not Snake Eyes as I prefer the military aspect? Only if Snake Eyes would have just stayed a military Commando.

Not the only one and it's not blasphemous.
I prefer the commando SE over the ninja SE and believe the whole ninja aspect is overdone and because it's expected in all Joe media it takes time away from other things. Resolute wasted 3 episodes on SE/SS stuff and RoC gave a flashback to a secondary character (which SE was in RoC) because it's expected that they had to explain the SE/SS backstory where the way RoC was set up could have done without and it wouldn't have affected the movie one way or the other.
