Hey guys,
after a little problem with my Hurricane VTOL, I noticed something awful. I had two Hurricanes, but only one Vapor. Since the jet is a two-seater, and I can be obsessive about symmetry, this seemed grossly unacceptable. But then I browsed my shelves, and noticed it wasn't an isolated incident, but an epidemic! A Mamba with one Gyro-Viper, a Hammerhead with one Decimator ... in fact, the only vehicle that seemed 'accurate' was my MAGGOT with four WORMS in their assigned spots. So, my question to you is this - do you staff the empty spaces on your vehicles with the vehicle's operators - three Motor-Vipers in a STUN, Two Strato-Vipers in a Night Raven, several Secto-Vipers to a BUGG, a company of Tele and Techno Vipers in your Terrordrme ect - or do you put random figures in there? Or perhaps not at all? I'm curious to find out if I'm the only one who drives himself up a wall over this. In my mind, I feel a vehicle isn't 'complete' until it could pheasibly be driven away by the figures in it. XD Tom

i load all my vehicles to the gilles. no left over space. whom i use depends on the vehicle when possible. desert awe striker for example has dusty, gung ho and others that are similarly colored.
i'm short on space since i'm using window sills so i have to pack them in there wherever i can.

I agree with you to a point, but i guess it depends on the vehicle to me....a Stun i can staff with a motoviper driver, troopers for gunners and a televiper in the rear seat for comms. The maggot though, I have 4 WORMS in that as well. My Raven has two stock stratoviper pilots, with a custom stratoviper "flight leader" to command them and do recon in the drone. My moray has 3 lampreys in it, but the original lamprey is the Commander, with other repaints working the cabin and gunchair up top, the rear pintle guns and forward hatches are manned by eels. Otoh, my Terrordrome is random troops and command staff.

I'm not sure how I'd handle a Joe vehicle, but I'd think you wouldn't waste pilots, and or drivers, manning the support positions. If possible, someone in that type of field. Like, In the case of the Night Raven for instance, I'd think the Strato-Viper for pilot, and a Para-Viper tagging along would make a decent combo. JMO, though.

It depends on the vehicle, to an extent, and is also dictated by the practicalities/expense of trying to "fill them out."
Most vehicles I'm fine with having just one of the driver for each copy of the vehicle I have. In a lot of cases I fill gunner/back-seater/etc... slots with regular troops of some kind (Cobra Troopers and their variants in most cases). I figure Cobra has to "train up" potential specialized vehicle operators somehow, and having them work some of the secondary jobs on multi-operator vehicles would be a good way of doing it. Plus, for every "Extra" original vintage vehicle driver one accumulates, that's theoretically one vehicle that will never have one in the future (Since Hasbro rarely re-released vehicle drivers in the old days). When it comes to vintage items I'm not sure I'm comfortable with the idea of potentially depriving other collectors from having a single "complete" version of some vehicles. More modern stuff though? Have at thee. Last edited by Jmacq1; 12-13-2009 at 10:26 AM.. |

I see your Logic 13, and i would agree with it on a lot of vehicles. When i first got the raven, it didnt have any stratovipers, so i kit bashed some pilots out of blueshirt officers and JvC flight masks. But then i got two stratovipers and a Joe Skypatrol guy in a stratoviper suit, i knew i had my raven crew. I have been thinking about getting an extra cockpit chair and modding it to fit modern figures and then assembling a modern Raven flight crew. but otoh, i think i might just get a ROC raven, and start fresh.

I’m sort of a purest when it comes to my cobra vehicles. My stuns are crewed by motor vipers, hiss tanks are crewed by hiss drivers. And so on. I look at the drivers as individual corps. I.e. motor-viper corps and so on. that’s just me. I like the way it looks, and that’s all that it comes down to. What do you like and can afford is all that matters. It can get price after awhile some of my vehicles didn’t get fully manned until after I completed my 82-94 collection. Heck crewing a bugg can run you 150-200 EZ. And there are some exceptions like the two open pods on the side of the hammerhead went to eals. Seeing as decimators don’t come with scuba gear.
Also, one more thing vehicles with out drivers are used as infantry support vehicles, and are crewed by specific infantry type that best fit with rage = alley viper
