The Search Pt 1
“Thank you kindly ma’am,” Honda Lou said tipping her black cowboy hat as she walked out of the professor’s office. “Be sure’n let me know if he shows up.” “Will do Agent Ewing,” the history professor, a kindly old man named Jenkins, said waving as he closed the door behind her. Who’s bright idea was that fake name, she thought to herself heading down the hallways of the building towards the exit, must have been Chuckles. Just because I’m from Dallas. Still, she thought, couldn’t go and use my real name, not with my being dead and all. So FBI Agent Lois Ewing will have to do instead of US Marshal Louisa… “Lou,” a man yelled as she walked outside the history building of the University of Illinois in Springfield, catching her attention. “Any luck,” Belvoir said catching up to her. Belvoir was an older man, black hair going gray, he was a former Army CID, now in the Joe Unit’s Domestic Operations Directorate, the same as she was. He had been sent to the another building, to talk to another professor, well she had come here. “No,” she said as the two of them walked back towards the campus entrance. “Professor Jenkins hasn’t seen him for two days. Missed a couple of classes. You?” “Same,” he said looking around, never off the case so to speak. “Doctor Biggles-Jones, the physics teacher, said the same thing. Also said he had missed a private tutoring session with her.” “Really,” Lou said. “The guy’s got a 4.0 average. What does he need tutoring for?” “She’s not that much older and is pretty attractive,” he replied letting it go at that. “Surprised you didn’t get her number,” Lou said jokingly. Belvoir laughed. “Something about her made me think she didn’t like FBI.” The two had come to the campus looking for a missing agent. The agent had come looking for a possible new recruit. It had been two days since the last check-in by the agent, Booker, and so they had been scrambled to look for the Joe and the recruit. Posing as FBI, the two had been all over the campus, top to bottom. “Call it in,” Belvoir said. Honda Lou reached into her pocket and pulled out a cellphone, dialed a secure number. “Shepardess calling Flock. Word of the day is wily.” **************** “Confirmed,” Clancy said. “Anything to report?,” he asked. Clancy, Director of Intelligence, for the Joe team set in one of the conference rooms off the PIT’s operations center. In the room along with him, sitting around the table listening to Honda Lou give her report thru the speakers, were Colonel Jericho, Lady Jaye, Surefire, and Skydive. Files were open and scattered around the table. On the large computer screen was a campus map of the University of Illinois at Springfield taken from the school’s website. “Nothing. Rey hasn’t been seen for two days. Belvoir says that he was to have a private tutoring session with Dr. Biggles-Jones, but didn’t show up.” “What does a 4.0 student need tutoring for,” Skydive asked. “That’s what I said,” Lou’s voice said over the speakers. “Thank you Honda Lou,” Clancy said. “Meet up with the rest of the team and proceed to Rey’s place of residence.” “Right,” came Lou’s texas accent as she disconnected. “Bring up what we have on Biggles-Jones,” Lady Jaye said with a slight irish accent. Born in the states, but having spent a considerable amount of time growing up in Ireland, she had never quite shaken the accent. “Let’s review,” Clancy said hitting some buttons on the computer and bringing up the US Army service photo of Philip Alexander Rey. “Born in Springfield New Hampshire. ROTC out of University of New Hampshire, Durham. Became a Ranger and excelled. Gained the rank of First Lieutenant and then left the service to pursue a history degree at the University of Illinois at Springfield. Skydive, we asked you here because Booker was on a recruitment op for you.” “Right,” Skydive said. “Rey’s name came up as a possible candidate for either intelligence. We did our background checks. As you can see in from the files, he came up clean. So we sent in Booker.” Skydive seemed to deflate and hung his head. “I feel as if I failed Booker. There must have been something I overlooked.” “It’s not your fault,” Jericho said. “All the Directors have to approve potential recruits. There were at least twenty pairs of eyes that reviewed this man. We all missed it. What we missed, that’s what we need to find out.” “Wait a second,” Lady Jaye said. She had been looking thru the dossier on Rey. “Where did you say he was born?” “New Hampshire,” Surefire answered. “But what…” “What town,” Jaye asked thoughtfully, looking at the folder in front of her. Something at caught her notice. “Springfield,” Clancy said, eyes lighting up. He caught where Jaye had been going with the idea. “Springfield New Hampshire and Illinois.” “Coincidence,” Jericho said but he didn’t believe it. “There’s no such thing,” Jaye said. “He had his pick of schools after getting out of the Rangers. Why this particular one?” *********** The van was parked three blocks down from the townhouse that had been identified as Philip Rey’s home address. Honda Lou and Belvoir had just exited the van and were making their way to the building. The van was white, nondescript. Like any of a dozen delivery vans. Inside was a different story. The back had been cleared out and a gray and red motorcycle was stored there, facing out, ready to go. Inside bucket seats had been installed and a listening station against the wall. Street was sitting at the station, Highway behind the wheel and Taser in the passenger seat. Honda Lou and Belvoir’s voices could be heard coming thru the speakers, talking as they approached the building. “Team 2,” Taser said thumbing on the throat mike he wore. “Sheepherders approaching target. Got them in visual?” ************* Shockwave followed the two in civilian dress. They were approaching the stairs up to the townhouse. The building across the way wasn’t that high up, but still gave a decent view of the building. Next to him, Mayday was using a pair of binoculars to scan the building. “Got ‘em at the door,” Shockwave said into his throat mike. “Street is clear.” ************* Down on the street Honda Lou heard Shockwave thru the ear piece she wore. Both her and Belvoir were wired, so the rest of the team could hear what happened. They wore thin clear ear pieces, barely visible. She had to fight the urge to look up at the overwatch position, she could feel the eyes on her back. “Well,” Belvoir said holding his hand out to indicate Honda Lou go first. “Shall we knock?”

An official Troy No-Prize to the person that figures out where the name Belvoir came from.

Headquarters for US Army Criminal Investigation Command - Commonly referred to as CID(Criminal Investigation Division).
Don't know how I missed the reference above.

Quote:
Now the character is based on a fictional CID agent that's appeared in a couple of novels, one of which was turned into a movie. Any guesses.
