In The Company of Ghosts pt 3
Quick-Kick remained motionless in the shadows of the barn. Two forms, quiet and stealthy, slipped in thru the crack in the door. Neither made a noise or brushed against anything. If he hadn’t been staring directly at the door, he may not have noticed them until it was too late. Dressed all in black, head to toe, slit in the mask barely large enough to see out of, swords in sheaths across the back. He couldn’t draw his own sword without them noticing. Ah screw it, he thought to himself. He quickly pulled his assault rifle into position from where it had been slung across his back. A quick burst, silenced, and the two ninjas dropped dead. ************ Outside Low-Light saw the brief flashes of light that escaped the barn door and heard the muffled thuds of falling bodies. The soldier under him reacted, moving in the direction of the barn. Low-Light saw three of the black clad soldiers making their way towards the barn, being joined by the one under him. Three others were on the front porch of the house, near the door. The other three, heading around back. He was glad he hadn’t unpacked the high powered rifle, the distances weren’t that great, almost anyone could take the shots. Movement on the roof of the house got his attention. Two more of the black clad ninjas were making their way along the roof, towards the windows. Four at the barn, three at the front, three at the back and the two sneaky dudes on the roof. Which to take first? He picked his targets, waiting for them to make their move. He didn’t have long to wait. Sounds from the rear of the house, that trio breaking in. The front trio reacted, one of them kicking the door open and the other two spraying the hallway with their silenced rifles, following the bursts into the house. One of the two ninjas grabbed onto the edge of the roof and flipped over, crashing thru the window. Low-Light took his first shot. The second ninja on the roof stiffened and fell, making a crash onto the ground. Taking aim he fired his second and third shot. The soldier that had been under his tree stand fell, followed by the soldier furthest from the barn. The other two turned his direction, weapons raised. ********** Kamakura heard the noise on the roof, the people up there moving quickly. It figures they’d be on the other side, he thought to himself walking from the bedroom and into the hallway. He stopped listening, trying to interpret the sounds to figure out where they would come in. Two. Not putting much weight down, but enough. Ninja. Like him. Moving. Towards the front. Master bedroom, front of the house, right side. He heard a loud crash, the backdoor being kicked in, followed by muffled gunfire. Another crash and gunfire. The front door. Then smashing glass. The bedroom. He headed down the hall, pulling two shuriken from the pouch at his belt and drawing his sword. He could hear men downstairs in the hallway and didn’t want to alert them that he was up here. He rolled himself into the bedroom, a sword swinging across the doorway just high enough to miss, rolling across the floor and up facing the wall, a quick turn and he let the shuriken fly to the right of the door. A grunt, one connected, and a sharp ting of metal on metal, the other deflected by the opponent’s sword. Kamakura completed his turn and stood facing the other ninja. The other held his sword in his right hand, blood ran down his left arm and onto the floor, coming from where the shuriken was embedded in his forearm. Kamakura grasped his sword in both hands, blade across his body, pointing down. The other tried to move his left arm but couldn’t, the tendons severed. The other rotated his right wrist, bringing his sword across his body and moved into a stance as best he could with one arm. I’d hoped he would surrender, Kamakura thought to himself. Should have known better. The other moved first, Kamakura followed. They met in the middle, swords clashing, the ringing of steel on steel. Silence. Neither made a sound. Just the ringing of steel. Back and forth, moving quickly, swords slicing arcs thru the air. Steel meeting steel. A single grunt of pain, a sword finally finding it’s mark. Followed by the thud of a body hitting the ground. Kamakura looked down at his fallen opponent, blood dripping off the end of his sword. ********* Jinx heard the noise outside, thru the walls. People moving along the wall, heading for the back. She tapped Chuckles on the shoulder, he had been focused on the front, finger to her lips calling for silence and pointed at the back door. He nodded. He moved away from the opening into the front hall, not presenting his back to anyone that could come in the front door, taking position behind the large hutch that was against the wall shared with the hallway. Jinx took her position on the other side, crouched against the wall. Waiting. Sounds at the back door, off the kitchen, which was wide open to the dining room where they waited. The back door knob moved, someone trying to open the locked door. The door burst in, kicked from outside. Muffled gunfire as those outside sprayed in front of the door, covering their entrance. Another door being burst open, followed by gunfire, in the hallway. The two turned their attention to the back door. Norseman and Mercer would have to deal with those coming in the front. The back door opened towards the dining room, providing cover for those sneaking in. One soldier crept in, low to the ground, swinging the barrel of his gun towards the dining room. Another barrel appeared high, another soldier following him in. The lower soldier, once clear of the door, headed towards the dining room, the other heading towards the opening that led to the living room. They couldn’t wait much longer before dealing with the two they saw. How many more out there? Noise from behind. One of those from the hallway coming into the dining room. She looked at Chuckles who nodded. Burst from the living room entrance took the soldier in the chest, dropping him. The other turned towards the kitchen. Jinx fired, taking him out. Chuckles turned towards the entrance as a black clad soldier stepped into the dining room taking aim at Jinx across the way. Chuckles opened fire, the man fall into the hallway. Return fire from outside, towards the living room entrance. At least one more outside. Chuckles looked at her and nodded. He kept watch on the hallway entrance. She crept forward, weapon ready, heading towards the rear door. She got close and glanced into the living room entrance. She saw Mercer peeking around the corner, low to the ground, gun barrel leading. His free hand came up, one finger extended. One more outside, at least that he could see. She pointed to the right of the door and then to the left, then shrugged. Right side or left side, outside. He motioned her to move and then opened fire thru the doorway, then pulled back behind the jamb. She cringed as the muffled gunfire, silenced but still loud this close, came back, returning fire on Mercer. Shards and chunks of woodwork exploded from where he had been. Her side of the door, left side. She saw Mercer peek around the corner again and fire. He crouched back behind the jamb and Jinx quickly moved around the door, diving thru the opening and opening fire to the left. She heard grunts of pain as she hit something. She landed in a role, coming up gun ready, sweeping all around her in an arc. The soldier lay grasping against the wall of the house, weapon still in hand, he tried to bring it up pointing at her. She let loose a short burst. He dropped the gun. ********** Quick-Kick moved towards the front of the barn, weapon ready. He drew his sword. He crouched up against the closed part of the barn door, sword tip pointed towards the opening, waiting. He could hear noise as people moved towards the barn door. Two thuds. Low-Light taking out some more soldiers. Quick-Kick shifted and faced the open door. He rolled into it with his shoulder, knocking it open and rolling onto the ground. He opened fire taking out a soldier. He landed with a thud and turned towards the other, who was turning to fire on him. A muffled shot and the man dropped. ************ Norseman heard the backdoor burst open and then the gunfire. Mercer was back towards that end of the room. Then the front door burst open followed by gunfire. He crouched behind a chair, not the best cover but it was that was there. Glancing back he saw Mercer crawling along the floor towards the opening into the kitchen. Returning his attention to the front hall opening Norseman waited. He saw one shadowed form on one side of the opening, and another form moving towards the other. One of them leaned in, checking the room, then the other advanced into the room. Norseman waited. How far would they have to be into the room to notice Mercer on the floor. The first one advanced, followed by the other. Behind him he heard the muffled shots of Mercer opening fire, and a grunt of someone being hit. The first soldier turned to the sound of Mercer. Norseman took aim and let loose, taking the man down. He then turned to the other, who was taking aim on Mercer and then got distracted by the man next to him getting shot and dying. Norseman took him out. Gunfire from the dining room. Mercer opening fire again. Gunfire from outside, another round. Silence. “Two,” Norseman said over the radio. “One,” Mercer “One,” Chuckles “One,” Kamakura “Two,” Jinx “Three,” Quick-Kick “Four,” Low-Light. “All targets down.” “Where’s Snake-Eyes,” Norseman asked.

I remember that thread. And I remember someone mentioning it but not having supporting proof.

now that I think about it me too, but at the same time it's the kinda "edgy" thing that they would do since it came out during the time in which just about every comic had some sort of gay piece in it wether it was a character or a story

Jeff Dunham (Comedian with the dummies) had a great story about just such an airfield. He, Guitar-guy, and the two pilots started having plane trouble over the upper west coast, and were trying to find an airfield. They saw one, that wasn't in their mapbooks or anything, but, since they were having trouble, landed. From the air he described it as dark and abandoned, but as soon as they all got out the plane. WHAM, lights, guns, loud orders to be still. Now, as Mr. Dunham put it, he had an idea. He called out to the ARMED GROUP OF SOLDIERS.."You guys know Achmed the Terrorist? Cause...that's me." Luckily, instead of being shot fulla holes and dumped in a small hole somewhere, one of the soldiers answered back. "What? Really? Hey guys, we bagged Achmed!"
I know, you had to be there.

Nice Troy. And I like the explanation as well. Makes a lot of sense.
Xamot Gay though? I don't know about that. I don't remember that at all. Unless that's new IDW territory. Although what was Xamot sick with that he was always bedridden? |

“Brussel’s” Hub
Location: The Hub, operating under the name Task Shipping and Receiving, owned and operated by the Omega Group “Brakepad,” the man shouted from the catwalk surrounding the office mezzanine. He was shouting to a mechanic walking across the open area in the middle of the large warehouse. The warehouse wasn’t used for storage, it was tall and long, had been converted over to its primary function. Mechanics bays lined the walls, except for the front. The office mezzanine was on the east side, over a couple of the bays. Vehicles filled some of the bays, a tank, an armadillo, and a couple of various style jeeps. A large ramp led down into the darkness beneath the warehouse. “I’m Brakeline,” the man on the floor shouted back walking towards the stairs that descended from the mezzanine, meeting the other man at the floor. “Sorry,” the other man said. “From up there you all look alike. It’s the damn matching uniforms. Need to get you guys different styles and different colors.” “Come on Brussel,” Brakeline said laughing. “You know that went out with the 80s.” “Yeah, yeah,” the man called Brussel said. “Where is Brakepad?” “Bay 3,” Brakeline replied. “Working on that transmission in VAMP A03.” “Right,” Brussel said. He started walking towards the front, the other man following. “The Jane just pulled in. Come nightfall we have to unload 3 Awes and 3 flatbed humvees. What bays are open?” He asked reaching into a pouch in his black work pants and pulling out a small device that resembled a blackberry. “What do they need,” Brakeline asked pulling a similar device out of his pocket and scrolling thru some lists. “Just the standard AAI,” Brussel replied giving the short hand that stood for after action inspection, a thorough check over that all returning vehicles that had seen any kind of action went through to make sure they were still working properly. “We can put the Awes in Bay 12,” Brakeline replied. “The humvees can go in 20. What’s the turn around?” Brussel scrolled through his portable computer, checking the inventory of vehicles that were ready to go down in the below levels storage areas. He always liked to have at least two extra available at any moment. Currently there were 4 AWEs and 3 Humvees. “First shift can take ‘em in the morning,” he replied. “Just make sure you get the work order down up tonight.” “Right,” Brakeline said heading off towards the bays on the right. “I’ll put it in the system right now.” “Make sure the armorers clear out the weapons before anyone touches them,” Brussel yelled after him. Brussel headed out the front door and into the yard. The warehouse, called the Garage, was the largest of the three buildings that made up the Taskforce Omega facility called The Hub. The front of the Garage faced the Atlantic Ocean and the two large docks, where currently a large freighter was docked. A wall of brick and concrete surrounded the grounds and the buildings, fifteen feet high, forming three sides of the square, the ocean forming the fourth. Shipping containers covered a lot of the open area, not stacked as haphazardly as they seemed to be on first inspection. The smaller building, called the Warehouse, faced the water as well, with truck docks down the sides and back. Enough space between buildings for normal sized semis with trailers. The other building was the Barracks, where the crew and workers of the Hub lived. The yard wasn’t that busy, a couple of forklifts moved about, coming from the dock where the freighter was being unloaded and heading towards the warehouse. He saw Tall Sally standing inside the Warehouse, taking inventory of the new stock. He’d sync up his handheld when he got back to the office, updating it with the new provisions that the Procurement Team had confiscated from some Cobra or other group’s facility. He’d have to remind her to make sure the goods the guys at the Hangers had asked for was ready to go out on the helicopter tonight and to get a shipment ready for the Pit. Freight wasn’t due back for two days and he needed to make sure the Hangars stuff went out otherwise it’d be a while before they got anything. He walked onto the dock, seeing the group of people he was hoping to catch up to. Walking down the docks were fifteen people, all wearing camo pants and tan or green t-shirts, some were hats. Six of them, grouped together, carried a variety of hardcases and duffels. The hardcases were different sizes, containing the Direct Action team members various weapons and equipment of choice. The others didn’t carry anything, although one of the females carried a laptop bag and one of the men carried a large bag. A forensics kit, Brussel knew. “Welcome back to the Hub,” he said greeting them, coming to a stop and making them stop as well. “Duke, you and yours are scheduled to fly out of the Dock Pad at 20:30 tonight. Glenda will be flying. Straight back to the Pit for you.” “Right,” Duke answered as he and the rest of the Direct Action team walked by and headed towards the Barracks. The Barracks was like a miniature Pit, it contained a large lounge with the latest movies uploaded from the Pit’s Entertainment System, as well as a gym and Olympic sized pool. There was also a small armory and firing range in the lower levels. The basketball court was only a half-court, located outside and behind the Barracks building. He noticed Stanley, the leader of the Procurement Team, a cute dark skinned brunette who always had a smile, watching Duke as he walked off. Still got a crush, Brussel thought to himself, damn shame cause that one will never notice her, only has eyes for redheads. “Sorry,” Stanley said to Brussels. “We didn’t get much this haul.” “It’s all right hon,” Brussel said smiling at her. If I was just twenty years younger he thought. “Every little bit helps. You guys are flying out at 19:00 with Sikorsky out of the back pad.” He said pointing over his shoulder and to the back corner behind the Garage. “No Pit for us,” Duster, the forensics analysis asked. “Nope,” Brussel said turning around and walking with them back towards the yard. “You folks are headed for the Hangar. Meeting up with a couple of the Engineers and shipping right back out again.” “No rest for the wicked,” Stanley said sighing. “Girl, wicked and you don’t go together,” Brussel said smiling. “Do me a favor and make sure Sikorsky doesn’t take off without the supplies.” “No problem,” Stanly said waving as her group heading for the Barracks and Brussel headed for the Garage and his office. “I’ll remind him.”
