This morning I did something that I really never do. I decided to hit the road in search of 25th anniversary Joe's for my personal collection.
I left the house at around 7:00 a.m. and headed to the local Walmart. I was shocked and surprised to see a couple of the more rare figures among the dozen or so V1 Roadblocks and Dukes. There were also some hooded Cobra Commanders, a few Air Troopers, and one scratched up Battle Armor Cobra Commander. I bought the Torpedo and Crimson Guard and then headed to the Target a couple of blocks away. The crappy Target had the same three Buzzers and the same common comic 2-packs that the had last week. The store had just opened a few minutes before and there were already a few 45 year old men hovering over the action figure aisle. I then headed to the super Walmart about 15 miles down the freeway. They also only had the really common figures as well as a few really gross looking guys who also looked to be in their mid to late 40's rapidly searching for any action figures that they could possibly sell on ebay. I went home and a few hours later decided to head back to Walmart to buy some non-toy essentials, and while I was there I stopped by the toy aisle again. They were cleaned out. The hooded Cobra Commanders, the scratched up Battle Armor Cobra Commander, and all of the Air Troopers were gone. All that was left was a bunch of V1 Roadblocks and V1 Dukes. Either a scalper had hit this Walmart in the last couple of hours, or a collector who wants multiples of each figure in his collection did. I think from now on I will stick to pre-ordering my figures online.

Like you said, coulda been a collector. I definately would have grabbed the Battle CC (Damaged packaging or not) and I've been known to buy multiples of lesser wanted figures for customs

Do you honestly think somebody buying a bunch of hooded CC's is a scalper? Those things aren't worth the plastic they're made with (hyperbole). More likely a hoarder with OCD or a customizer, like Shogi suggests. . .there are plenty of those out there, though. . .or at least there are around here. I got really lucky today actually (first time in about a month) and got to pick from freshly unpacked cases of wave 4 Joes. Happy day.

I don't like them. But, there's no possible way you can prove that those guys were scalpers. Because they are in their 40's? Who says a collector can't be in his 40's? Somebody who was 13 in 1982 and could have loved Joes would be 40 now. And I've seen people's collections on here where they collect multiples of every character for whatever personal reasons they have. There's no guidebook to what scalpers look like, either. They don't have to be 45, fat or untidy. Honestly, you could have a scalper who is a teenager in this day in age. Yeah, I don't like scalpers. But I don't like how people can assume they know what a "scalper" looks like. A lot of these supposed "scalpers" could very well be fellow collectors.

Like Shogi said, I'll buy multiples of Buzzer or Stalker for customs.

Scalpers...sounds like trouble. I buy my figures so I can open them and pose them. After that, I buy seconds if I really like it (Snake Eyes) or if one of my figures is too loose (Gung Ho).
Honestly I have never seen a scalper in person, but when there are no figures on the shelves I blame them.
