| The toys proved too bulky and not cost-efficient.
The thing about G.I. Joe is that it would not stand up to the treatment they gave Star Wars and are giving Marvel.
Frankly, I think that Obi Wan flying around in a transforming Mech-Ship is awesome. However, when the mech ship transforms and has HIS OWN FACE... BEARD AND ALL... I cringe. Just seems silly to the point of ridiculous.
For Joe, that would NOT work. Maybe some sort of BATS, but if I saw a Missle System tansform into Hawk complete with tousled hair, I would throw up.
NOW THEN...
Since Joe (which is INDEED Sci-Fi) has a history with TFs, it would be ideal to crossover Tansformer characters with 3 3/4" Joes (as pictured). In fact I've PRAYED for it.
Don Fig even did great concepts. (Rolling Thunder Prime and Dominator Megatron).
The problem is that Transformers are heavy in joints and hard points. They are more expensive to produce than Joe vehicles of similar size.
In order to create ONE properly scaled Transformer, it would have to be in the larger size classes. Like Supreme Starsceam or Metroplex.
And indeed, it WOULD be awesome.
Problem is, this makes Transformers in the Joe scale
A.) Clunky looking with massive cockpits. (Even most Joe vehicles aren't to TRUE scale with the figures)
and
B.) They'd have to carry a pricepoint of at LEAST 20 to 50 dollars each. Even for the smaller ones.
Unless you want an army of Kicker dirt-bikes.
