Okay, fellow Tankers..... we have seen threads about our wives and girlfriends now its time to talk about our Moms. Who hear has a mother or father that does not understand their Joe addiction?
My Mom came to visit me and my Fiance in New York (from Florida) over the weekend and it was Hell......I have never seen such hatred for anything in my life. Don't get me wrong she loves my fiance but hates -HATES- my Joe collection. She came over for an extended weekend and I put her in the guest room which houses my Joe collection..... it also doubles as my office so I have a no use, no guest policy! But its my Mom and im not going to put her in a hotel..... well next time I will. She took one look at my room and gave me a three hour lecture on responsibility. Now mind you I am a 38 year old man who pays child support and Alimony to my ex-wife. I have a son in college and I have been living on my own since I was 17 when I found out I was going to be a Dad...... never borrowed money from my parents and never burdened them with any of my financial responsibility. I have two cats a dog and a fiance I support...... gladly I will add. But my mom thinks I have to many toys for a grown-up. Keep in mind this is the first conversation I have ever had with her like this.... so this is coming out of left-field. I thought I was going to commit murder when we took her to the mall and as any self-respecting man who collects Joes would do I stopped at Toy-R-Us.......sigh! Well that went to shit.... I found several figures I am army building and she gave me a :30 min lecture and Q & A on why I need multiples of the same figure. In front of the cashier and several mothers who snickered at me. I kept saying dont go all Christian Bale on her, dont go Christian Bale on her! Good lord I felt like ramming my head into a wall. This lasted...Thursday, friday, saturday and most of today! She even reminded me that as a kid I needed all those figures, never once admitting she bought them for me..... As her parting gift her very own "coup de grâce" she put all my figures I had opened and on display into a laundry basket and when that would not hold them into a garbage bag and put them in the closet. She feels that the room should be turned into a baby's room..........mind you I don't have a baby! Anyway what is your Mother Horror story, or am I the only one with a crazy mom? My mom completely supports and understands. That said she's a Barbie collector so it's a given that she is cool with it.

well my ma dont say much. she knows i loved joes as a kid, an that i came accrossed these last year an fell for em. she knows i have plans one day to set a whole room up as one big dio an i army build, an she knows i paint em and respects it.
what she don't think is smart is all the money i spent on these. i dont think it's actually smart either, but hell it's now or never right? why let em pass now an then find yourself regretting it later.. |

Communication isn't so great in my family. I'm not sure they'd ever tell me how they feel about my collecting. Maybe that's for the best!

My mom has been fully supportive of her kids Joe obsession since the 80's. She actually bought us the USS Flagg. Now that we're old enough to be spending our own money, she could care less what I spend it on. Hell, sometimes she helps me sew my costumes.

my folks are cool w/ it. my Mom will just buy whatever she sees marked Star Wars or GI Joe. It's very appreciated but has led to a bunch of crap in my house. my Dad just looks at the stuff and then gives me a lesson on how impractical the real world applications are....then he goes and plays w/ his WW 2 models.....

Given the thread title, I was expecting a compilation of the best 'Yo Mama' snaps from the interwebz.
Disappointing.
