I'm an old 80's fart. I'm gonna turn the big Three Seven on Sept. 11th. I'll talk 80's toys, music, culture any time you feel like it. Bought my first Joe (Breaker and Rock N Roll) summer of 82, fell asleep in the theater during the first Star Wars (pre A New Hope BS), went to my first rock concert in 86 (David Lee Roth/Cinderella) and my first car was a 79 Honda Civic. I wish more Tankers were into the original 80's line but the few that are make it worth while. Just ask Lantern Lad

Aahhh, the 80's were so fun to live through as a kid. I only collect OT Star Wars figures, the MOTUC classics that are based on the old figures and modern Joes based off of classic ARAH era figures simply because it takes me back to a more fun and carefree time of my life - being a kid! Nostalgic bliss!
Everything in the 80's was good. Music, TV, movies, video games, toys, commercials, comic books....you name it! Only thing I don't really miss are the hair and the clothes.

from what I've seen on the custom contests recently were pushing the 25th. If you wanted to stimulate a little 80s flash back then you should see if someone would post a contest or two in the future that is RAH based.

I love ARAH but have stopped buying so that I can keep up with the 25th/ME line. It was a good deal since you had vehicles you could use with the vintage figs.
I have little interest in ROC so I may start collecting ARAH again.

I love the vintage Joes as well. About 30 '83-'87 figures survived my childhood. Getting my allowance each week and heading to the store to grab another joe is a thrill I havent lost. I'm a big boy now and still love to hunt down the new figures, but now I can buy more than one at a time!
For me the 25th aniv style is just incredible and brought me back into collecting (OK Playing) again. Probably have about 150 non-vintage joes now, which I know pales in comarison to many of you! But my love for the original hasn't died- I just bought a Bridge Layer and Wolverine that I always wanted and built a custom Flagg. On the otherhand, there is no way I'm spending $$$ for a vintage GungHo when the one I have contains all the memories (and also sat ontop of my wedding cake as "the groom" LOL) even if he has Outbacks legs and Shipwrecks arms (I was an early customiser when thumbs/crotches broke). As a kid I used Joes for everything: Dusty/GungHo/Shipwreck/Recondo doubled for Dave/Eddie/Mike/Alex for me! Built a stage with a big VH logo for them to rock out on too. The Nox were Motley Crue with Buzzer as Vince Niel. Also used them to play football with using 2 linemen, a runningback, 2 WR and a QB. made 4 teams and had a schedule and everything. Used the living room oriental rug as a field (perfect endzones and sidelines). HMMMM.... now that Im thinking about it Im gonna blast some Van Halen and see if Quick Kick can still throw the deep out! |

Anyone who collects toys to this day that have ties or deep lineage with the '80s, is by default, an '80s hobbyist IMO.

I am an a true child of the 80's , Joe has always been a constant since I got my first Joe ( Short Fuze 82 ) in Puerto Rico , Joe taught me English as well as inspired me to Serve my country by joining the marines. I used to fall asleep to my Beta max collection of Joe cartoons. and wake up to Dino Riders, centurions, super friends, thundercats, silverhawks, ghostbusters, Hologram chest guys , Lava guys, tranformers, go-bots, ETC. Although I do collect the new joes , nothing will take the place of my one true inspirations for which I have amassed many. Yo Joe 80's style. P.s. Voltron ( the real Power rangers) too.

I'm trending back to the 80s...I've sold off most of my 25th stuff to build my 82-83 collection.
