I see by the date that these were posted during my hiatus from the 'tank, which is why I missed these. These are awesome! I'm glad this thread has been resurrected.

Charbroil is my new favorite! His original filename is Finnish. From now on the name they ended up using is just an alias, as far as I'm concerned.

Just found the link to this thread.....some cool stuff. Kinda wish they woulda left Duke's name Carl. Between all the "Shut Up Carl" Memes and the fact I cant say the name without saying it Coral now thanks to Rick the Prick Grimes lol.
Think I might add the Original file name for Static Line as part of the Sky Patrol.... |

These ones where from the 2004 or 2005 Con... I am not sure if these are typed by Larry Hama or if they are just retypes but any why they give you a glimpse into the mind of the man behind GI Joe and what he wanted to do before Hasbro finalized it... And duke is an old man even in 1983... he inlisted in 1960 according to larry's first draft... so if he was 17 in 1960 he would have been 40 in 1983... and 51 when the series was finished in 1994... I prefer to think he was born in 1949 or 1950.

These are fantastic. I especially like the bit in Zap's profile from Short-Fuse, about him being a "square... in the old-fashioned... sense," because that was eventually used on his Super Sonic Fighters filecard (which is my favorite iteration of Zap). I also like Stalker's comments about Grunt, which ring true for both characters, frankly.

These are terrific, though I can see why some of the material didn't make it into the final file cards. Steeler's, for example, has a flawed peer assessment, by Sp-5 Clayton K. Abernathy. Well that's all wrong to begin with, and the assessment (commenting on stirring coffee with a soup spoon) comes across as an out-of-touch aristocratic caricature. But they give a great insight into the thinking behind some characters. I second the reflection on Footloose.

One thing I love about these is seeing how Hama originally ranked the characters. Several were Sp-4 which makes sense given their specialty. Even Scarlett is listed as a Sp-5 which is not even a rank anymore. Steeler is listed as an E-5.
If I understand current Army ranks, there are two grades for E-4: Specialist or Corporal. Most soldiers with an E-4 ranking are "Specialist" and a few are "Corporals." The main difference being a slightly higher pay for "Corporals." If my understanding is correct. Jason |

Jason also this is more for a Marine Corporal Leadership responsibility significantly increases in the mid-level enlisted ranks. This responsibility is given formal recognition by use of the terms noncommissioned officer and petty officer. An Army sergeant, an Air Force staff sergeant, and a Marine corporal are considered NCO ranks. The Navy NCO equivalent, petty officer, is achieved at the rank of petty officer third class. |
