also a true fan is someone who loves the line when its good and gets upset when its not, not just turns away and stops collecting but has a desire for it to return to being something worth having. thats not just for those of us not interested in ROC, but those who would also complain if they started making Joes wear pink and ride ponies. Some would still say "be glad its there" while a true fan would go "Hey Hasbro, WTF?"

i'm a true fan of the 80's cartoon an toyline.. dont know a damn thing about a comic. it seems the comic buffs are the ones that have all the info on how things became, an they may consider themselves truest fans, lets take troynos for example (he never claimed to be a truest fan or more truer then any other, im just using him cus he knows his shit), that kid is a wiz on info of g.i.joe, like it's a science. " what secrets lurk in the file cards" that's looking at it down to a science..
one might look at him an say, damn sons a true fan, an then some may look at a army builder, an say the same thing.. but that dont make him a truer fan then myself or vice versa. we are both true fans for different reasons. he has read the comics his whole life, i never read a comic in my life.. having the toys at age 4/5 an then a cartoon coming out shortly after is what i was tuned in to, an was all i ever knew, that dont make me a non true fan. an him reading every comic dont make him a truer fan.. an for one to never stop buying toys throughout the years dont make one truer then one that stopped cus they had to grow up, grew up an started to buy joes off nostalgia later on. to me we are all true fans of g.i. joe, cus if not we wouldnt be here talking about it right now or buying the shit out of em at the age 31 plus.. not sure if all that makes sense but that's how i feel. i feel im a true fan, i'm just not an extremist. only in army building, i would consider me being an extremist. |

That just sounds like a fan making personal choices about what they do and don't like, which we all do, surely? and that sounds to me exactly like you mean people who aren't interested in ROC.

Some would still say "be glad its there" while a true fan would go "Hey Hasbro, WTF?" The movie wasn't great, but it's keeping the brand alive by bringing newcomers into the fold (which, I'm sure will inspire many of those who actually liked the movie to seek out the source material). The toys are new and unique and at the very least custom fodder for those who would rather pass on the line. The last point I want to make is one many have made in the last little while. Since 2007 we have been given something few of us would have expected...a great deal of the original characters adapted with new sculps based on a line that was initially meant to be tiny. Hasbro DID cater to the fans and expanded the ME line for 2 years. Are there OG characters I'd rather see than the RoC stuff? Many! Would I rather have some of the resolute stuff now rather than later? Absolutely! It doesn't make RoC crap and Hasbro certainly has not gyped any of us. |

This is my definition of a true fan. You don't have to like the latest offerings, but you're glad that there is stuff out there for other fans to enjoy. Everything, even Extreme, has it's fans. I won't financially support anything that I don't personally like, but I also won't rip Hasbro for trying different things to keep Joe on the shelves and try to return it to being the #1 boys toy. Also, I don't think a True Fan tries to force their opinion of what is the "right Joe" down others throats and accepts and understands that there are different versions out there and that just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's wrong. A True Fan is willing to deal/work thru the stuff they find as "crap" and hope that eventually there's a return to what they like or they find something they like in the new offerings. But a True Fan won't begrudge or give a hard time to anyone that does like the new stuff. After all, the stuff that we first found to love about G.I. Joe is there, and nothing can ever take that away.
