this is the golden age of gi joe.
im a bigger fan now than i was as a kid.
its frightening how many gi joes i own now.
if i were me at eight years old looking at my collection now id think
i was the coolest adult in the world. i used to be worried as a kid
id stop liking toys.
i wanted to buried with my joes like a pharoah and his cat. hahah
fall of gi joe my ass. gi joes are going to take over the planet
if my collection is any indication. which its not.

Hmm, i am actually really loving the Resolute and Roc properties. I got back into joe with the 25th figures, but i wasn't all the way into them. I felt the characters were stagnant....
The figures were mechanically leaps ahead of the VvV or JvC stuff, but the characters were like a step back. I liked how the joeverse was growing during the VvV and JvC days, it was new and fresh. Then 25th/ME came and it was like rah again, which i already had in tubs in my storage room. so i dabbled in it, mostly collecting BATs and Ninjas (two of my unhealth obsessions when it comes to toys/collectibles).
So when Resolute came out, it was a breath of fresh air....Characters were growing, changing, and evolving. Suddenly GIJoe was shiny and new again.
Then RoC hits, and i'll admit i was skeptical...but the figures really won me over big time. Again, it was growth, change, a chance to see joe as i hadn't before.
So, for me, GIJoe is rising. for certain. It has captured my imagination, like it did back when i was a kid. Which i guess is why my rah stuff is in storage buckets and my Res/Roc stuff is scattered all over my man-room.

Oh look, another thread made by a "true fan".
Saying that your opinion counts more because you're a "true fan" just reeks of pretentiousness and elitism, and makes all fans everywhere look bad.
This whole thread should die by fire.

cheer up all. at least ROC is better than Valor vs. Venom, and still has the articulation properties of the 25th line.

to me a fan is how ever you see yourself as.
like me I think of myself as a fan I don't now how
a True Fan works or what difference a True Fan is vs. a Fan.

I think it is as simple as respect your fellow Joe fan: the 12 inch fans, the GI Joe Extreme fans, the Action Force guys, Savage guys, the New Sculpt guys, the RAH guys, the 25th guys, the ROC guys etc...we are all fans of an awesome property. Doesn't mean you have to like it all just respect that I may love Sigma 6 and you may love Capt Grid Iron. It's all good (unless you are a new sculpt T crotch fan and if that's the case you are weird! :-P )

G.I. Joe needed to evolve or it was going to die again for sure, but I just wish we had a few more waves before the movie hit. I mean a few more waves would have very easily finished up all of the "most wanted" ARAH figs that were yet to be released. That way all the "old school" people would have been satisfied since they had most of the ARAH figs they had been craving and would have been far more willing to accept G.I. Joe's new ROC incarnation.
IMO we didn't have enough time to say goodbye to the 25th ARAH collection and barely had enough time to say hello to the 25th Resolute collection before ROC was force fed to us.

I've been collecting Joes since 1984, I have almost all the ARAH figures, a vast majority of 25th and all the ROC I canget my hands on which being in Oz is kinda tough. I didn't get Extreme, Sgt Savage or Sigma because of the scal but thought they were cool. Does that make me a fan? Yes, a true fan? ..well
I believe once someone reads or joins a board like this, be it poster or lurker is a "true fan". It's not a badge of honour or anything, just a quiet statement that we think about and care about our hobby enough to talk to fellow collectors and discuss things that relate and sometimes not relate to Joe. That makes us all true fans IMHO

Are the kids interested enough to be 'true fans' or are they just buying figs cuz of the movie? Kids are more into video games and computers. I've yet to see kids in front of some Joe set-up searching through the pegs. Its picked up a bit since the movie, but not enough for me to think that kids are the ones keeping the line afloat. I think thats an easy answer to a much more complicated buyers market. I think everyone knows toys are for kids, and Joes are no exception.
Its funny how most will agree that kids these days don't dig figures, and on the other hand say the kids keep it moving. I think Hasbro is very aware who gave them there second wind. It sure wasn't little kids buying those 5 packs.
Just to be clear, this isn't a diss to Hasbro or anyone who thinks I'm trying belittle there idea of toys in general. I'm just putting my two cents in.
As far as fans, we all are. We wouldn't be on this site trying to politic about toys at five in the morning if we weren't. Roc is going strong due to the movie, but once the movie is gone, I think a different tune will be played by these 'kids' who buy figures.(I hope not) Give 20 bucks to a kid and try to get 'em to buy Joes, and watch that money go to Ben 10 or Bakugan.
Oh, on another note. I dig where ROC is going with line. The figures are crazy butters. The new shit got my mouth watering. I can't stand the 20 or so Dukes coming out, but I like the new characters and classic updated vehicles. And the playsets. Wow, its gonna be a great Joe year come 2010.
