I've got to say, I'm pretty amazed.
This is some nice looking stuff, and just as the remaining ROC figures are starting to look like a collection of Frankenjoes(albeit, pretty decent ones) they sure are diving head first into next year. There are some great looking figures, evolving the film look into many classic inspired designs. A few things I like so far: 1) Pursuit of Cobra - brilliant idea to make the line into basically a sequel to the film, continuing the story rather than crapping out "off-screen" characters 2) 4 sublines to represent different "front." Very cool! Gives us different environment teams, so many of us love bunching all the snow guys up together for example. Smart move financially, since they can easilyy release characters in different outfits that make sense! 3) That Jungle Viper should be the stupidest thing ever, but somehow, with the Night Viper influence, and the mechanical wings/foliage, it just works. Looks so cutting edge, like a Metal Gear boss! 4) Transforming motorcycle. Robotech fans rejoice! Wierd, but pretty neat. 5) Mail Away Cobra Commander looks like someone at hasbro hated the film mask and just wanted to make it a little cooler. 6) Zartan is a great way to work his classic look into the film character. Best disguise accessories he's ever had. 7) I like the incorporation of classic design elements, a lot of HISS influence going around! Some things I'm not so hot on 1) Night Raven repaint looks...odd. I hope they plan on only flying it through sandstorms. Inhope the pilot is not new. 2) Seriously? ALL 4 of the small vehicles that not many people are buying are being redone? I'd be pissed if I had bought all 4 and saw these new ones with better drivers. 3) Scarlet and Storm Shadow don't seem to be present in complete Resolute form, just partially. 4) Not quite sold on the new HISS or Ice Cutter. 5) Havent seen anything on the implied TRU Footloose. That's all I can think of, and I should shut up for now. Anyone notice anything else? What are you excited for and what do you find boring or even terrible? |

I'm pretty excited. I love the idea of having different environments and each figure has a unique look within that environment but still ties all together.
And the new figures are just awesome. The sculpting, paint apps, accessories... just some great looking figures... Some of 'em are just blah. I'm not as excited about the transforming cycle as everyone else, that's just too far into sci-fi for my Joe tastes. But the rest of it is pretty cool. That Jungle Viper is just kick ass. I like the Ice Cutter. I like the colors on the Sand Serpent but it'll be a pass. The jungle-camo armored panther is... that thing is going to be the death of me. I'm going to want so many of those... But you're right about the "Pursuit of Cobra", it's just a natural extension of going from Rise to Pursuit and that leaves open where the movie sequal will fall.

From what I've seen it looks really, really well done. Much better than what I would have imagined. Its like the guys at Hasbro looked at the movie designs and one-upped them. "this is how you do it - Steven Sommers"
It seems very much like 'classic' Joe - military inspired, hi-tech fantasy. And they aren't all gray and black... thats a plus |

itz really a lot to take in. itz certainly bold of them... some of it
is so completely new as far as GI JOE goes. I'm elated actually. that Zartan is already one of my favorite toys ever produced. heheheheheh. I'm gonna guess based on how different some of these look from each other that this is really just the tip of the iceberg. like i said in the large discussion, not all of these are things I'm interested in... but there's some seriously cool stuff in this lot.

At least they aren't putting out a mail away that people will actually WANT - like Doc. I'm not going down that road again. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice - well, you know...

my jaw dropped when i saw these new figures.
that jungle duke reminds me of arnold in predator. the jungle viper is awesome all the artic stuff if pretty realistic. ive never been a zartan fan but that one i love. to me these new figures are all must haves. what do you guys think the chances are that these will be plentiful, or even actually released? and from these figures id say a resolute style cartoon series in 2010 is a pretty good bet to pick up where the movie left off. |

I'm digging everything just about. The took the RoC line, which was decent, and are giving the real fans some of the stuff they want out of it too. Trying to keep everybody happy.
Just not sure about the new HISS right now. I'm all for new stuff but it's just...lacking. All in all, its a great time to be a Joe fan. |

Well I'm definitely not going to be spending anywhere near the amount of money I spent on the 25th/ME line that's for sure. There's a couple of nice little gems I'm looking forward to, but even most of those are vintage stuff.
The recommissioned Rage/Fury tank is at the top of that list, that one I've been wanting to army build for a long time and finally I can. With a 25th Alley-Viper in better colors too. The Jungle-Viper looks good, I just wish Hasbro would shorten the goggle scopes. The HISS VII is slowly growing on me. I'll need to see the final product before I decide for sure. The design looks very sleek and high-tech, but the whole 'pop-up' gimmick feature just brings back memories of that awful HISS IV. Firefly's new urban version looks kickass, as well as that M416 he sports. Also, the red and black mail away COBRA Commander, I'll need at least two of that one. I'd love it if Hasbro released an entire wave of COBRA figures in that style of packaging. I wouldn't even mention the Joes since I don't collect them, but that Cyclone Armor/Motoslave mecha has me drooling. Hopefully Hasbro or a retail chain will repaint it down the line for COBRA. What I'm mainly disappointed in and the reason I won't be spending as much money on this line is the lack of any really good COBRA army builders. I was hoping Hasbro would recycle some COBRA troops from the 25th/ME lines like the Viper, Alley-Viper, and Resolute COBRA Trooper in darker colors. So until I see a few COBRA troop builders to really get excited about my wallet will be heaving a sigh of relief. Last edited by Nemesis*Prime; 08-15-2009 at 12:19 AM.. |
