Okay, I've realized that this is a touchy subject, but I've learned to be an optimistic person. So I thought maybe I could do a best/worst of GI Joe and maybe everyone could participate, debate, etc.
BAD: Movie figures. I never liked the idea of buying film merch, but when I saw the first wave of these figures, I wanted to throw up. GI Joe had come along so far, and now the crap that they were making was just wretched. I do not want horribly-scanned faces of Channing Tatum and Sienna Miller staring back at me anyway... okay, Sienna Miller can, because I like to be naked. GOOD: Movie figures...? Yeah, I said it. Some of them are pretty badass. Sure, Firefly was a frankenstein/repaint, but he was a pretty cool figure. And let's not forget that they're giving the Resolute fans service through movie figures... it's just a package, guys... and they come with a good deal of weapons and gear. And you'd be a fool not to see the awesomeness in the Pit Trooper... that's just kickass waiting to happen to any army builder. BAD: Sigma 6. What the hell, Hasbro? Did you really think that taking "A Real American Hero" and bastardizing it to the level of the cheap critter collector anime cartoons would work out? How could you? The animation wasn't what killed me, it was the execution. You basically found a writer for the series, showed him some toy designs, let him flip through the comics for about 30 seconds, and gave him some meth and put his ass to work. GOOD: Sigma 6...? I did it again. Okay, so the cartoon was horrible... and we didn't get anything more than about 7 versions of Snake Eyes with different accessories. But hey... the Adventure Team was interesting, I'd like to see someone re-do that with the 3.75 figures... hell, I'd like to see multiple figure designs get their own place in the smaller Joes. And the Dark Ninja Master was just an awesome toy, who cares about it being stupid in the Joeverse? It's kickass on its own! I have one on my whiskey shelf... I call him the "Dark Liquor Master", and all who wish for a beverage must appease him. BAD: Neon Weapons. Yuck. I really thought this was terrible, and I think everyone agrees. I personally blame those idiot moms who somehow believe that if you make a toy gun pink or neon green, that their kid won't go pick up a real one and kill someone. Right. Maybe if you weren't trying to turn your kid into a wimp and emasculate him, he wouldn't be whimpering to himself with a razorblade. GOOD: Weapon Sprues. Aside from the icky colors, this was awesome. I loved getting multiple weapons, and I would love to see some of these sprues resurface. It was a good way to keep Joes equipped, and you can never, ever have enough weapons. BAD: GI Joe, the movie. Yeah, the animated one. It was just ridiculous. Who would have thought that you could take something with a cartoon that was already silly, and make it unbelievably retarded. Cobra LALALALALALALALALA! Good god, it was like a stupider version of the Vong. GOOD: GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra. Dare I say it? Many people are already saying this is better than Transformers. And many of the naysayers are angry because the characters aren't EXACTLY like the comics... and so far, only Watchmen was able to pull this off. But someone on this forum said it best- we never thought we'd ever see this. We should be happy. Hey, it's a PG13 movie based on toys... it can't be Oscar material. It's just supposed to be a little nod to us, and some fun. I was a naysayer, but now... well, I'm at peace with it. We still have our comics, and we call all still remake the movie in our own sick and disturbing way (Poor Ripcord, guess Cobra doesn't shy from using napalm). |

Good - Early 90's Joes. A lot of people don't like them. But a lot of people went to see Titanic in the theater 20 times, so that shows popular opinion isn't always the thing to go by.
Bad - People who don't like neon. Shame on you! |

Good: The ROC Figs, look, they offer some unique and fairly military looking figures to add to your Joeverse, some uniformity kind of looks cool up on the collectors shelf.
Bad: Roc Vipers and other Cobra Troops...I did not, I mean NOT dig their treatment of these figures. I have bought a few of the Vipers with the dual MP5 PDWs and the drop leg holsters for custom Fodder but seriously. Ugly: ROC Cobra Commander...I can't bring myself to buy this fig, seriously. Good: Muskrat and Maces "Rocket" Helmets from the 90's, come on dude, these were awesome. Bad: Muskrat and Maces "Rocket" Helmets from the 90's, okay so they had a novelty to them, after awhile it wore off. Ugly: No 25th Headhunters or Headman? What gives? Seriously? What f*&%ing gives Hasbro? The headhunters were seriously the greatest thing to come out in the 90's waves. Good: GI Joe the movie (yes the animated one) look, I was a kid when it came out, I was so stoked that I nearly made brown in my pants. It was GI Joe...the movie. I did not care for Cobra Lalalalalalala but I had and still do have several of the figs including Nemisis Enforcer who alongside the new CP pack fig just seems sad. Bad: GI Joe Extreme; I never could get into this one. The figs sucked, didn't care for the cartoon...seriously though, figs without hardly any articulation? Ugly: Sigma Six....this made in my mind at least Gi Joe extreme look good, I saw one episode and seriously wondered if GI Joe was truly and utterly dead. |

I've never liked the 'Noks, especially the look. Never liked that Zartan was in charge. He never fit in with them.
Now the idea, a biker gang that works for Cobra, has alot of merit and with some minor reworking could work. I mean, how scary would it be if the Hells Angels (for example), were aligned with an international terrorist group? They have chapters all across the US, have members that are constantly on the move. A biker gang can be pretty damn scary if was used right. And the 'Noks weren't used right. Horrible looking figures. I don't have a single 25th one (well, I do have Torch, but only because I bought a case, never would have gotten him otherwise, he's never been opened and never been touched). Have no desire for Zandar or Zarana.
