In RoC, not the comic (which is where the people would be following the used car salesman with no military training).
At least in RoC, Rex Lewis had some military training. And they aren't all being mind controled by the Nano-mites, there's evidence that even the Baroness wasn't always under the influence of the mind control. |

I don't want to know anything about Cobra Commander's past. I don't want to see his face, I don't want to know anything other than he is is evil and a force to be dealt with. I wouldn't mind a hint here or there about his past but I just think once you give him a past you make him human (yes even the Cobra-La CC) and that takes away from him.
I know a lot of people like the cartoon CC but scientist does not equal military genius. I can't say for Brother of the Baroness because I have not seen it yet but the used car salesman.... well, would you fear Larry from threes company? I think when Hasbro first concieved him it didn't matter what his motives were, just that he was evil, and that he needed to be stopped. It's only natural, as time progressed, that fans would want to know more about this antagonist they love to hate. It's probably better that you never know for sure what his origins are, and that any information about his past you are given could always end up being a lie. After all; the Enemy is also a Deciever. Out of the 2 choices given, I prefer "brother" because Cobra La is silly. |

Even though the Marvel comic is the joe I hold over all others, I think the used car salesman is the better commander for many reasons.
First off he was more than a car salesman. He started a pyramid scheme to manipulate people and gather money. This showed his demented desire to manipulate and get what he wants. A lot of real dictators were no nothing workers before they gained power. This is also the only version where CC is not some bumbling underling. While the Cobra-La CC is interesting and is important part of my childhood, in the cartoon he was never really the evil leader he should have been. The scientist aspect just made it seem like everything he did was because of Golobulous. As for "Rex" in ROC. Well haven't seen the movie yet and not quite done with the novel but again he seems more of an underling to Destro and even the "kid brother" to Duke and others when he was in the military. While this version is superior to the cartoon I still think they should have had Cobra be an independent organization and that CC used and stole from Destro. Not CC being an underling again but this time actually over trows his commander. |

Used car salesman that became disenfranchised with the government and began building his empire by selling Amway-like products.
I was approached by an Amway salesman back when I was a teenager, and even back then I wasn't buying what the guy was selling. He was creepy, well-dressed, generic wife with a smile on her face no matter what he was saying, and touting the amount of money he made, and that I could make if I just signed on the dotted line. I had a flashback to reading the comics when I was a kid and thought to myself "this dude is everything Cobra Commander was". It just doesn't get any better than that! ... and don't forget in the original comic, CC spent a great deal of time brainwashing and mind-controlling those that worked for him, including both the Baroness & Storm Shadow. |

So how's it answer those questions when the movie "answers" have no relationship to the origin of the questions?

Wait until the end of the novel then.
