Just felt the need to drop a note here to thank everyone for the outstanding content provided here. My story? I am a 35 year old father of two boys, (an almost 4 year old and an 18 month old).
As a youngster, GI Joe was all I focused on. My younger brother and I were avid fans. We spent countless hours in our basement and backyard battling between our factions. I remember my first GI Joe (straight arm Rock and Roll) and every subsequent birthday or Christmas where I acquired more Joes and vehicles to add to my force. I even remember a major war that my brother and I embarked upon that spanned several months and culminated in treaty papers being drawn up between General Flagg (on my side) and Duke (on my brother's side). It was the Rolling Thunder that won that war for me!
Due to a recent flood in my parents home, I was forced to unpack and repack all of our old toys. This was my oldest son's first exposure to GI Joe and he was hooked instantly. When he saw the treasure trove of old toys emerge from the boxes (tie between the GI Joe Command Center, Rolling Thunder and Tomahawk as to which is his favorite) his eyes grew wide as could be. That very night, he was joined in the bathtub by Hit and Run, Outback, Lift Ticket, Bazooka and Barbecue.
I labored over exposing him to the 25th line and modern era figures as he seemed content with my old guys-especially given his young age. However, he is in his glory and begs me daily to put on GI Joe (we have the old movie and one of the DVD packs.) He can sing the entire theme song and even the 18 month old, who barely knows momma and dadda can belt out Yo Joe.
Their six year old cousin is also hooked.
I was torn about the ROC figures and movie but I am starting to come around. I am just so excited to be sharing this huge part of my childhood with my two kids and look forward to continuing the tradition with them with countless hours of creative fun-whether its ARAH, 25th, ROC or the weird combination of all three that my son seems to enjoy right now.
So add three more recruits to the legions of young boys discovering GI Joe for the first time and finding out what we already know--it is the coolest toy in the world!!!
Sorry for the long email but I have been meaning to post here for a while and pledge to be more active but much briefer in my posts!
Yo Joe!!!

My boyfriend has collected Joe's since he was knee-high to a grasshopper and when he moved in with me I didn't realize how many "men" would be living with me. I started to get interested so that him and I would have something to talk about and it has since grown for me. I am looking forward to the movie and now my son (who never was into Joe before and is 9) is also big into it. I go shopping for me, my boyfriend, my son, and my boyfriend's son who is 10. It is fun...and can't wait to see how great the movie is and to add it to our outstanding movie collection. Welcome aboard!!

NOT THE BATHTUB!!!
Great story. The movie is just for fans like you (and alot of others here). It's to create a new fanbase and give fathers and sons each their own Joe to discuss and play with.
Like I've said before: someday I look forward to the discussions between people on which Duke was the best, ARAH, RoC, Future Movie Version?
Welcome to the 'Tank, just duck the hate and you'll be good.
