Wow I wish I had camera's with me when I was a kid. I remember just seeing giant walls of Joes and Transformers the few times I was brought into TRU or Children's Palace.
Awesome pic...I wish there were more. |

Where did a lot of you get your GI Joe's? We didn't have a Wal-Mart or Target in my area back then (not sure if those stores were around in the 80's) but purchased mine through K-Mart (when they used to dominate), Sears, Montgomery Ward (I don't think they are around anymore), Thrifty (which I think is now called Rite-Aid) and those old local pharmacy's.
Btw...I don't remember how much the figures were back then but how much was a single carded figure going for at cost back in the early 80's? It's funny because I looked at stuff that I bought in the early 90's and I thought they were cheaper but they were as much or if not more than toys we buy today.

I think figures back in the 80's were between $1.97 to $2.99 a figure. depending which store you went to. Walmart and Kmart had the cheaper figures. and Toysrus was a little more expensive.

They would let you go through all their new cases in the back room anytime you wanted. |

-rikkuluverx2 Life was a lot simpler...but as far as the GI Joe stuff, hell man...I guess if you had parents that would get you stuff...hell, my mom and dad would only get me one figure if I got great grades and did my chores. And was fortunate my grandma bought me the VAMP. I had to work hard for my GI Joes and sometimes had to beat other kids and bet in the game of marbles to win their Joe's. And even when I won their Joe's...couldn't buy O-rings...tried to find rubber bands or stuff to make it work (which they never did) or they had their thumbs or legs broken or something. Curious...did other children of the 80's get what they wanted or had to work their butt off in chores or get good grades to get their Joe's? And then once we get in high school or before, having to get rid of our collection (ughh...not sure if other parents of other Joe collectors on here were as strict as mine). If anything, for us parents who raise our kids to be next generation Joe fans...and realize how much our kids have it good now.
