After watching a bunch of the cartoons again on Youtube recently, I'm reminded of how much I hated the 1986 voice cast. To this day I still want somebody to hit Sgt. Slaughter in the face with a shovel any time he even thinks about speaking. Wet Suit and Leatherneck were also annoying, but it was the combination of their voices, the bickering, and Wet Suit's perm. The worst though was Beachhead. The card art made me love the character, but the cartoon burst that bubble as soon as he spoke.
Lowlight and Sci Fi were the only actually good ones that year. |

My dad was in the army so I was aware of the regulations and stuff in terms of appearance so I was always a little bothered if a Joe had a beard since I knew for most military branches they were not acceptable (I think maybe the Navy has an exception for facial hair?).

I didn't like the top gun on the MOBAT. It was just kind of there, didn't look like a machine gun or even a laser gun, didn't swivel or anything like that.

No hatches for the Mobat and Wolverine.
Oversized weapons that snapped thumbs. Vehicles with no drivers. My ocd would make me want to get the figure on the box art and then you would see the same guy with 2 different vehicles. Grrrr!

It didn’t bug me if a vehicle didn’t come with a driver, but I feel you on seeing the same character on multiple vehicles boxes, I wanted to know who was supposed to be the driver. I used Rock N Roll on the RAM despite the box art having Breaker because a lot of the coloring books featured RnR on the cycle. Oh and the fact that Hawk came with a vehicle was annoying, and frankly beneath the status of the leader. Shot Fuse should have been the MMS operator. Covert teams don’t need mortar fire, and if they did that’s green shirt work. Hawk would have been a single carded figure. His status as leader would have been enough to make him sell.

Airborne wasn't a Paratrooper! Even the card art had him as Dope on a Rope.
As an adult, it's the E-4 mafia and junior officers making up the bulk of a specialized force that kills me. Later on, they added some senior leadership, but early on, it's like there was no military advisor. |

It's about picking soldiers fresh out of boot camp for the EM-50 project. Something like the newest men with the newest machines.

"Airborne" implies Paratrooper though. The 101st gets away with the tab because of history. They could have dug a little deeper and called him "Air Assault" or "Strike Force" or "Bastogne" (Probably wouldn't sell that one well) or "Rakasan" (again, no one would care outside of Ft. Campbell).
