I LOVE the new stuff. I have almost every figure and vehicle from the line, can't force myself to buy Cover Girl, the "ugly" Scarlett or Lt. Stone.

I was totally against the ROC toys when we all first saw images of them. I told folks at the last toy show I was at that I hated them and would NEVER buy any of them. Well, the movie quickly approaching has changed all of that. Seeing them on the pegs after months of seeing nothing new and/or exciting has created a whole new level of interest I never thought would be there. I bought the ones that caught my eye more than the others and look forawrd to seeing the movie and more figures. The GI Joe in the 80's was the best and we'll never see that again. But the time for ROC is now - even if you don't like it, it's keeping GI Joe in the spotlight where it belongs.

Agreed. I'm doing the same thing and will consider picking up some of the classic type characters but only if they are more than glorified repaints. The biggest turn off to me about the ROC line is the jacked up prices! I'm expected to pay the same price for a armadillo and thunderblast as i was for an armadillo, air chariot, and 2 figures a year ago? No thanks Hasbro, I'll hang out in the Marvel Universe for awhile.

I am 110% in favor of the new direction and everything that goes along with it. To me, G.I. Joe has always been about how the story and the mythos intertwine with the toys, and this is a great new chapter, in my mind. The vintage homage stuff had it's place and time, but I'm ready to move on, and it certainly helps that the toys kick all sorts of ass, too.
Already looking forward to 2010. Justin |

That's where I am at and so far they have been all exclusives. As for the movie itself you already know where I stand.

Considering that i liked the change that Sigma 6 represented and wished it had continued im supportive of this movie despite not being overly enthusiastic about it. Joe desperately needed a change. I will always love the memories Joe provided in childhood and the creativity it fostered but at some point it simply became stagnant and uninteresting (outside of the comic book medium that is).
Sigma 6 and ROC werent the Joes of my childhood but Hasbro is trying and i can appreciate that. |

Great conversation everyone.
I am always welcome to change, there are a few things I don't like but I am happy with all the stuff that I do like.

More often than not, change has been for the worse. The first big change in the ARAH line was doing away with semi-uniformity of the original 13 and ensuring the spotlighted team members had their own distinctive appearance. Cobra gradually shifted away from its traditional Blue and Red to some pretty outlandish designs. The cartoon was always silly, but if you compare the first two mini-series to the later cartoon series it becomes more and more far-fetched. Then, of course, there was Cobra-La. All this because the line had supposedly grown stale and needed new ideas and so forth. Heck, if it weren't for fan backlash, the producers of the film would have decided that it was time to forget about the Cobra organization and "start fresh." Historically, the GI Joe brand seems to do best when it stays closest to its roots, rather than "innovating" in a way that causes it to become GI Joe in name only. I'm sort of 50/50 on the movie and the toys. I really like some aspects of what I've seen, but there's also quite a bit a dislike. Same with the toys...there's a few I'm eagerly looking for, some I would buy if the price was right, and some I just have zero interest in. |
