Does anyone know of anywhere that has decent images of the original Marvel comic series covers before color was added? Not looking for anything hi-res, or even complete. I have an idea for an artistic reinterpretation using some of the most iconic covers from the run - maybe 30 or so in all - and having uncolored references would be helpful. The hardest part will be deciding which ones to use - at a glance, there are SO many great examples that are perfect for what I want to do... I think my primary focus will be within the first fifty covers. Anyway, thanks for any help.

While i personally don't know of the covers being available uncolored anywhere, it would be pretty easy to remove the color using some photo editing software. I use Gimp myself, in fact that's what I've used to do my ridiculous avatar.

I've found a few on the blog "Marvel Comics Of The 1980s" that print the original pre-color images of several covers. Here's a link to one:
Marvel Comics of the 1980s: 1985 - Anatomy of a cover - G.I. Joe #39 I have Gimp, but am in no way fluent enough in it for anything more than a bit of photo polishing.

I'm still just scratching the surface with Gimp myself, though I have a feeling I'll still be saying that 5 years from now, it's got a lot of nice features. That being said, if you're not dead set on perfection, feel free to pick a few covers and send them my way. I'd be willing give it a go, and could use the practice. |

I see, looks as though it was pulled from the yojoe art archive: https://www.yojoe.com/archive/art/, and it's likely there from someone's private collection. There are a few more there, as well as concepts, etc. Kinda makes me wonder how many more of these are floating around, it's cool to see.

Sure thing, I'll do some looking around for the images and start mucking about with them tomorrow.

Not the highest resolution, and definitely could use a bit more dialing in, but I figured I'd go ahead and pop this up here to make sure that this is what you want before I go to town with all of them.
