Okay with the leaked list of “possible” 6” Joes coming soon I have seen an endless debate with many supporting the 6” scale, and many being opposed. So my question is quite simple, is it the scale of a figure we really love or the characters? I was and have been a 1:18 or 3 3/4” scaled collector since Star Wars toys hit the shelf in 1978. I only had 1 12” Joe as a kid. My mom bought him from a yard sale around 1979. When A Real American Hero toys hit spring of 1982 I was hooked! I still remember getting my first 2 Joes( Snake Eyes and Short Fuze ) at Super X Drug Store on sale for 2 for $3.00! Those were the days. I love A Real American Hero toys from the 1980s. Quite possible the best toy line ever made! But I can remember spending hours reading file cards, rereading the Marvel comics, watching the cartoon, and just staring at the beautiful card art. That card art really made the characters come to life! Think Destro’s, Baroness’s, Snake Eyes’s cards! In the end it was the characters I became attached to.
The A Real American Hero characters have already seen different scales; 12” Hall of Heroes, 12” Sideshow( which were amazing ), 8” Sigma 6; etc.. None of the other scales made me appreciate the 3 3/4” toys any less; in some cases more. I will always enjoy my 3 3/4” Joes. It is the best scale for army building, vehicles, playsets, etc. But as I have grown older I realize it’s not necessarily the toys that I love so much but the incredible characters and the world they encapsulate. The 6” scale is a fantastic scale to fully bring out detail, articulation, and other little nuances that can be difficult to attain on 3 3/4” figures. But they don’t take up massive space like 12” figures. I have been an avid collector of the Black Series since 2013, and I love the line. Many are near perfect representations of the characters I love( Dengar, Han Bespin, etc. ). But, I still have and enjoy my 3 3/4” Star Wars Collection. I appreciate Hasbro trying new things as I think this will generate new interest in G.I. Joe itself. I have already heard many people who never collected Joes say they would buy several 6” scaled Joes. And in no way does a 6” line diminish, devalue, or lessen the incredible 3 3/4” toys that came before it. But after all these years I’m less into vehicles and playsets anyway. But I still love the characters and can’t wait to see and get my hands on 6” Joes. So is it scale that really matters, or is it the characters we grew to love as kids? |

I've always been a toys first and foremost kinda guy myself, and have less knowledge of canon, etc. than the average tanker does. Also, I'm into Joe purely for nostalgia. As such, the selfish part of me says 4" only. But then I also recognize that Joe doesn't resonate with today's youth as it did our generation, and that's a bit sad. So in that respect, I say whatever gets the kids back on board. Granted, to me, it goes far deeper than what a scale change is going to fix, in fact I think that's the last thing that'll do the trick... But at least they're making an attempt. I (probably) won't buy them myself, but hey, I'm only one dude. Its not all about me, after all. I already have my GIJoe, and Ive had it for nearly 35 years

The characters. 100%
Having said that, I own just about everything I want with 4". But I will always pick anything up in that size if it fits the needs of my collection. 6" is a chance to get the best versions of these characters that we've ever had. Not saying that will happen, but the potential is there. So I'm all bout it. |

I have the same characters across multiple lines already. 3.74, 4 inch, Sideshow, KRE-O. A black series style 6 inch line COULD be awesome. That just got me thinking about what if Figuarts got the Joe license. Wow, that WOULD definitely be awesome. I get that 6 inch is harder to do vehicles, but we already have all the vehicles available from the original line. People just complain about prices.

Small vehicles for 6" I'd probably buy some of. Nothing big, though. |

I say it’s about the characters and story. I have so many 4” that I really don’t need any more. I have everybody I could possibly need. I love 6” figures and have spent hundreds on Marvel Legends and Black Series and I must say 6” is an amazing format where you can capture a sense of realism not possible with 4”, but far more manageable than 12”. 6” is pretty much the perfect collector scale, whereas 4” is the perfect play scale. As for those who are opposed to 6”, think of it this way: we haven’t had any Joe product in years, so don’t be upset that this line isn’t 4”, as we probably won’t be getting ANY Joe product at all if we weren’t getting 6”. Just be glad we’re getting Joes at all.

6" figures never appealed to me personally - it all comes to the individual collector. We are all in this hobby for different reasons. For me it's the character in a 1/18 scale format (the 3 3/4" and 4" inch Joes are my preference). Some of us collect from different toy lines in different scales, some of us focus strictly on the vintage ARAH figures, others prefer the modern era stuff and some of us like it all. |

I like the scale. Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed reading the comics and filecards, but to be honest I would've bought a lot fewer Joes, if those cards were attached to 6" or 12" figures. Most the ARAH characters are just three sentences on a filecard. The "core" characters could be 3-4 different people depending on the media (filecard, comic, cartoon or movie). I don't need the same ARAH characters over and over again. I'm ready for some new characters to start filling out the roster.
I'm one of the few Joes that isn't excited about the Snake Eyes movie. He's the only character who's backstory we've seen and read multiple times. I thought his side stories in ROC and Retaliation derailed the main plot and didn't move either story forward. The 4" scale is great for customizing. It's fairly easy to make figures for properties that never really received the toy representation. You have people in the 3d printing community making some great vehicles. There are a surprising number of 4" toy lines being offered online. I probably won't be buying too many 6" Joes. I'll see what Roadblock looks like once the pictures are released. If they ever get around to Stalker V2 or Rock N Roll V2, my feelings may change.

Characters 100%. I think the most important part to making GI Joe successful is finding a way to get young people emotionally tied to the characters like many of us still are so many years later.
Personally though? Screw 6". But I was trying to answer the question with an unbiased opinion. |
