Everyone is pissed at Hasbro because we'd like to know the 25th line will continue in some form so we can continue to get updated classic figures in the cartoon/comic style. However for whatever reason Hasbro has had the attitude that it's ROC or nothing. This is why people are pissed. It's not cause there is a movie style Footloose, it's because we've been told that as far as they are concerned for now there will never be a classic Footloose. Hasbro should just say a modern era collector driven line will return with all our old favorites. They'd be stupid not to do this.
Does Hasbro know what's coming beyond that? Well sure, they're putting plans in place, but plans can change (Look at the aborted "Robot Rebellion" line or the last three waves of ME figures). It could very well include classic product that they aren't talking about (see my post above for explanations on why they're not talking about it). People are blowing Hasbro's statements on RoC WAY out of proportion. Yes, Classic product is going away for a while. No, they've never said that it's never coming back. |

Spend some time on Yo Joe. It wasn't a rare occurrence.
I guess it depends on how you define the ARAH era. For me it's the O-Ring, ARAH is O-Ring, then VvV/Spytroops was new sculpt. But even during the "great" years of 82 to 91 there was alot of new uniforms. Grunt - 3 Clutch - 2 Rock 'n Roll - 3 Lt. Falcon - 2 Pysche-Out - 2 And that's just off the top of my head. There were multiple Roadblocks, Dukes, Flints, Recondos, Dustys, Lifelines, Shockwaves, Tunnel Rats, Major Bludds, Low-Lights, Spirits, Mutts, Footlooses, Snake-Eyes, Muskrats, Repeaters, Lightfoots, Gung-Hos and probably a couple of others. |

Even in the original RAH era, they got heavily into remakes with the Battle Corps. The last two or three years of "classic" Joe ended up giving a huge chunk of the original Joes new costumes.

Prior to '88 - that is, the entire first half of the line - it was a VERY rare occurrence. Even after that, it was only a select few that got redesigns - and granted, I wasn't counting repaints such as TF, PP, etc... because I thought we were talking about complete redesigns from the ground up, not repainting figures to save money. As far as I'm concerned, that's a separate topic. But anyway, I still hold the opinion that "most" figures didn't even get a repaint. I'm not 100% certain about that, mind you, but I think if you took every single new character introduced during the original RAH run, "most" did not get repainted/redesigned.

The problem is that us collector's think we're a large group and we're really not.
Terms like "alot of us" and "everyone" don't necessarily apply and when they do, that makes the "market" even smaller. I'd say that the majority of the 'Tank is open to new versions of Joe and fall into the "if I like it I'll buy it" category and not necessarily influenced just by nostalgia. So why wouldn't Hasbro, who's in the market of making and selling toys (not collectibles) not do a product that would gain it the biggest market it could? And as has been stated repeatedly, just use T-Formers and Star Wars as examples, the basic Hasbro stragety when there's a major media tie-in is to focus solely on that tie-in and then expand the line later on. People just have no patience (not indicating anyone, but it's been said enough times that Hasbro has a certain model they follow and can use TF and SW as examples of what to expect).

Here's the thing: "The 25th Anniversary/Classic Concept" never goes away at Hasbro. Not completely. Yes, for the next six months to a year it will be "Rise of Cobra" themed and pretty much only Rise of Cobra themed. This is Hasbro's standard practice when a major mass media tie in such as the film comes out. They do the same thing with Transformers, and Star Wars. When the movie comes out, it's all about the movie product.
Hasbro isn't going to run two separate lines because the retailers don't want two separate lines. They didn't even want the last three waves of Resolute/Modern Era single-cards. (How do I know this? Simple: Because if the retailers want a product that Hasbro has already tooled up, Hasbro will sell it to them). Likewise, Hasbro is not going to start advertising a return to "classic" product this early in RoC's lifespan, even if it very well may be what they have planned. Think about it...they have the biggest "push" of G.I. Joe branded product that they've had in the last 15 years, but then are going to not play it up and start talking about "the next thing" or "going back to the old way" before the new product even has a chance to become successful? That'd be a slap in the face to the retailers who've bought heavily into the line...not a good way for Hasbro to do business. It'd be like Hasbro saying to Wal-Mart: "Hey, we actually think this stuff you just spent millions of dollars on is total crap and doomed to failure, but hey, please buy this other stuff instead!" So in short: Six months to a year from now, there will almost certainly be more "classic themed" product out there. Maybe not in classic packaging, but definitely classic looks. Until they announce that product (which probably won't be until Toy Fair of next year at the earliest), they are going to continue speaking as though RoC is the only game in town...because it is, and because they want that product to sell, and the retailers to feel like they're standing behind that product. Not to mention that if they announce "more classic product is coming!" and then something happens where it doesn't come (like say, Wal-Mart refusing to carry the line), can you imagine the fan outrage when it's cancelled? I would also note that even before we get "classic" product back on shelves, we'll probably get some movie kitbashes that look a whole lot more like classic incarnations of the characters (Classic Duke uniform with Channing Tatum's head, for example). Much like the "G1" repaints they tend to do on Transformers movie toys.

Vintage/Classic looks suck. They really do. They're awful by today's standards. The color schemes, the hairdos, the complete lack of uniformity of the characters - it may have looked cool in the 80's. But now it makes those old characters look like The Village People (see pic). Those guys looked flatout ridiculous, except that we were too young to realize it at the time.
I don't know how a fan of a para-military operation like GI Joe can prefer the heroes to look like an uber cheesy disco band rather than actual Special Ops troops with state-of-the-art gear and weapons. GI Joe doesn't exist to please the 30 somethings (myself included) that lived and died by every afternoon episode from 1985. It exists as an entity to stimulate the imaginations of people of all ages. And in order to do that, it needs to remain relevant and up to date in its look and its characterizations. I'm sorry haters, but GI Joe is not YOURS. I implore all of you to grow up and embrace the awesomeness of this generation's incarnation of Joe. Because by any reasonable comparison, it is far superior to the crappy crap we grew up with.

I would prefer they go one way or the other. Like flash is total diferent. I dont care for the idea of makeing them in classic style and then slappin the movie logo on it like the grand slam weve seen.
