Rant>
The Candian dollar has been at par for quite a while now so how come 25th singles are $8 at WM in Canada while they are only $4 in the US? <end rant |

Well, it's mostly because you have to pay for those AWESOME tri-lingual deskjet labels. Those along cost $4.00 in ink
All joking aside, I wouldn't use W*M prices to gauge the difference between U.S. & CDN pricing. Most larger retail stores around the states sell Single cards for $5.99. There are some stores that sell them as high as $7.49 - $7.99. |

From what I heard taxes in Canada are higher compared to the U.S. That might be a factor.

Taxes on retail don't tend to be in the price, they're added at the till. However:
The US and Canadian dollars are at par because of the weakness of the US dollar, not the strength of the Canuk one. But U.S. retailers are being cautious (& hopeful) about increasing prices too much. So the Canadian price might be a closer reflection of what those chinese kids actually get paid. Also, I suspect that most of these toys go to the States first (possibly by way of Vancouver) and then get shipped up to Canada. So... they've got extra shipping costs in them, too. And part of it is that $8 isn't out of line with anything else you see on a Canadian shelf and they're enjoying the margin for as long as they can. Because at the end of they day, they're there to get paid. |

What I've read from retailers and suppliers is that it's more expensive to import products into Canada because the market is smaller than the U.S.
Basically, the U.S. consumer market is shopping at Costco, and the Canadian consumer market is shopping at Whole Foods. |
