I dont feel all these people described lack social skills or have some kind of social disorder, some people just arent as friendly and talkative as others and may not be in the mood for a convertsation. I personally am not a fan of small talk but if a stranger speaks to or makes a comment to me,I will respond out of respect, but I dont feel Im obligated to engage in a full conversation. Perhaps Im not interested in whatever you have to talk about. In these situations I try to remain as pleasent as possible and usually give one worded responces, trying to politely let the person know that Im not really interested in having a convertsation with them,to often people do not pick up on the hints and continue to blab on and on. What many peope fail to realize is,not everybody is looking to make friends nor do they feel like beig pestered with a thousand question, esspecially from a complete stranger.

I'm just focused on the task at hand, and God help the poor son of a bitch who tries talking to me while I'm in the zone.

I met one other serious collector who is a cool guy and I became friends with (board member P-Rev) a few years ago in a store, but most of the time when I see another adult w/o a child looking at Joes I try my best not to talk to them as that's what the Internet is for - I'm with Lo-Wan Bing on that one!
Yep, I went to my Wal-Mart the day that Wave 13 first hit stores and I seriously thought of dropping a HHH style Pedigree on a dude that was trying to get the last Blowtorch on the peg. Last edited by quintonarledge; 07-23-2009 at 08:30 AM.. |

I have to say that the collectors that I know are NOT fat, sweaty, stinky, oddly-dressed, spitting while they talk (well..not most of the time) people that you seem to find. You can keep those ones and I will just continue to shop with my personal collector ;) (He is also my best friend) |

home and avoid people while my phone rings off the hook. i pretty much only socialise if i feel like getting drunk, the rest of the time i work on one of my zillions of art/technology/music/ weirdo horror projects. i used to live in a house like devil's rejects with bizarre stuff everywhere, toys, r usty bladed weapons, occult stuff, guns, christmas lights, blood splattered walls, broken glass everywhere... it was a real horror show... nobody ever forgets a party i throw even if i throw them daily which i so often did. hahah it got to the point where the feds were investigating me because they thought i was the ringleader of some kind of satanic cult or something. i didnt know being a badass alchoholic metal head satanist was against the law but whatever i guess. they found some deer bones or something by my house and tried to say it was part of a sacrifice. LOL. gotta love the bible belt. get hung with it one way or another even if its autoerotic asphyxiation. never mind its deer season and people dump their leftover guts and fixins in the woods, there are some occult symbols and beer bottles over yonder. hahah now i live in a mansion and it doesnt make my toys look nearly as cool. i look like a spoiled man child with too much money. oh well, nobody knows where i live anymore so my reputation will remain intact so long as i do something hardcore every once in a while. im gonna go meet a fellow transformers fan up here sometime soon. hes a sunday school teacher. hehe should be a barrel of monkeys. I hear ya. A similar thing happened to me once in my local Toys r us, i was searching through Star wars figs, tried to talk to a guy and his wife/girlfriend, asked him which figures he bought so far. He mumbled something, i could just feel the bad vibes coming from him. Maybe i was holding some figures he wanted, lol. Figure envy Perhaps?
I usually make my toy runs separate from the wife. If I happen to be at Target with her, I may cruise by to check things out, but I wouldn't buy anything or browse for very long. If I'm by myself I always like to chat with a fellow collector. |

I always fear that the person I see in the aisle is scalper scum, and I will just wish a painful death upon them if I see multiples in their cart. It's kind of weird to see someone looking at the same things you are, they feel like competition. I guess it depends on how rare the figs they're looking at are. I did have a GI Joe buddy for a while, but I never went shopping with him.
