A company man to the end, Roadblock was killed in duty defending the company formed by the "Brothers of Has". Although his infantry duties will be taken over by Sgt. Morris Lamont ("Heavy Duty" to those he served with), he can't be and will never be replaced. I wrote this after reading this from the Hasbro Q&A: "Hasbro: The focus will remain on the movie universe, even after the movie has passed." As apparent to the new comic continuity (having Heavy Duty resemble most physical and characteristics of Roadbloack), the ROC movie, the above statement and a prior Q&As explaining why "Heavy Duty" will be the heavy weapons character for this generation, I don't expect to see Roadblock again in the foreseeable future. This saddens me, so I figured Marvin should have a proper eulogy. Quote:
You might as well have a eulogy ready for "Heavy Duty" File Name:Morris A. Lamont, Birthplace Chicago, Illinois. According to the ROC The Confidential G.I. Joe Files Book, Heavy Duty File Name is now Herschel Dalton Birthplace: London, England (James, 40). This is another person totally. Reference: James, B., (2009). “G.I. Joe The Rise of Cobra: The Confidential G.I. Joe Files.” Simon Spotlight, Simon & Schuster, New York, ISBN: 978-1-4169-8342-2. |

Roadblock's codename was compromised putting his family at risk during Operation: Red Rocket. Marvin Hilton, and subsequently Roadblock had to "die" so that his family would be safe. That is why his codename was changed to Heavy Duty.
Events like this are all too common in the Joeverse, which is evident by all of the codename changes of late. |

Maybe I just view it differently, but using Heavy Duty instead of Roadblock sounds just like what GI Joe has always done...replace older characters.
Roadblock was a replacement for Rock N Roll same way most of the 1984-85 cast were replacements for the original 13, they just happened to choose another, later replacement to use in the movie. Besides, who says Roadblock won't be in the 2nd movie and have an updated new figure? |

I think we have Heavy Duty because there is a strong influence of Sigma Six in the movie, what with the Accelerator Suits and all. I'm actually pretty surprised we didn't get Tunnel Rat.

Roadblock, you have served your duties for the United States Army to the fullest, we thank you for that. Your memory will forever live in honor. Yo Joe.

They say change is good. The same may can be said in this case. Let's all wait and see what hasbro has in store before we jump to conclusion. There may actually be a method to their madness.

Roadblock is not dead! I don't care about the movie so much. To me they used HD instead of RB fine I don't care they probably would ruin him if they did. Which is why I'm glad Flint, Stalker, aren't in there either. But it's the Comic that bothers me.

Besides, who says Roadblock won't be in the 2nd movie and have an updated new figure? Michael Clarke Duncan or Ving Raimes for Roadblock in Joe 2? As long as we get Will Smith as Alpine and Jason Scott Lee as Quick Kick I'm sure everyone will be happy. |
