With SDCC around the corner, do you think we’ll get any news about the future of GI Joe, or at least a bit about the upcoming movie(s)? The next GI Joe installment has a 2020 release date (I think) so we should hear something soon, right? Your thoughts below ⬇️

As long as money can be made, I think paramount is gonna give it a shot. I think they said they met their budget so it is just up to them to decide what to do with it.

You know, I've been thinking about "The Future of Joe" lately and I think there is a tiny bit of hope we may get one more shot @ some neat toys. Looking back over the RECENT history of the brand, one thing stands out: whenever the toy line seems dead and Hasbro seemingly has no clue what to do with it, they always end up doing the same thing. They traipse out the ol' nostalgia. 1997, 2000, 2007, the 30th, the 50th. So, if history holds... Don't hold your breath on that though. It could very well be that all that nostalgia was courtesy of D. DePriest.

I'm talking about the deep cuts made in the company causing many employees to lose their jobs. He took that task of preserving the neglected G.I. Joe items upon himself, not for a promotion or personal reward, but because he probably knew that Hasbro had no idea what they were doing with the G.I. Joe brand. Thanks to his hardwork, they now have a lifeline of sorts. When Hasbro's new employees are lost and not knowing what to do with the brand, somebody might take a look at the G.I. Joe "nostalgia" archive which Derryl assembled right before he left the company. It could serve as a roadmap for clueless new employees, resulting in exactly the event you theorized might happen. As Mark Weber taught us already, it is less expensive for Hasbro to release an action figure again with no changes to the paint, deco, build, etc. For that reason, I expect we might even see re-releases of action figures we already have, as well as concept case builds, and other stuff. I wouldn't put it past Hasbro to finally release the Duke figure that almost was created before the latest hiatus happened.

I fully agree with you, SmokeBellew. When Derryl DePriest began working very hard to archive the G.I. Joe stuff at Hasbro, I had the feeling that he knew something was in the works, but maybe he didn't know how fast it was coming.

I expect nothing will be announced at SDCC 2019 this month.

Right before he left, didn't Bobby propose an SDCC mail away set with Duke and CC? They had a chance to do that and they passed. It was do that or do nothing, so I believe they are going to stick with the latter. There is no one there that cares about Joe anymore. Dammit!!!
