I think in the Joe-Verse we have seen many things in comic, toy and cartoon that are pretty "far fetched". From an outsiders view they simply look like a group of military specialists...but we have seen everything from Venomous Maximus to The Fridge.
So my question is this, in any realm of the Joe Verse, do you think a vigilante could be part of the team? I'm talking about a Frank Castle WHO NEVER SERVED ANY BRANCH OF THE MILITARY....Perhaps someone who was lurking in the shadows when the Headman came to Broca Beach...maybe just a dude with a gun and some martial arts skills that ended up saving a Joes life with his homegrown training...could that man ever be considered a Joe? (if such a man/woman exisited?) What about Ninja Force for that matter? Did all those guys serve in the military? Werent some of them just hand picked from various dojo's? If the answer is yes then my question is partially answered. |

Frank Castle was a Marine long before he became the punisher. He served three tour in Nam before coming home to become a trainer. he received several medals and was even was awarded the medal of freedom. However Helix is not and has never served in the Military and was recruited to the Joes as told in the preview for her comic in issue 1 of the movie adaptation.

I just re-read the entire Marvel series... and Cobra Comander's son Billy was essentially "adopted" by Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes- he never formally joined the Joes at any point that I could tell- I guess you could say he's sort of a vigilante. So I guess if they met someone and felt that a "vigilante" had the right motives for fighting- the answer to your question would be yes in my opinion

Frank Castle was Marine Force Recon. And all the Ninja Force guys are technically military as they all have ranks. Having a meaner version of Quick Kick would be lame. Having The Punisher team up with Mercer and Chuckles would be awesome!
I think the military background is essential, whereever they got it. Like Mercer is a ex-Cobra. |

Uh... read the post Tanksmasher- I never said Billy was the first Joe recruited or that he was recruited at all by the Joes. I just said that Billy was adopted and taught ninja skills by Storm Shadow. Snake Eyes has indeed been with the Joes since issue one. After re-reading the post I can understand how you thought I meant Snake Eyes hadn't joined the Joes- I meant Billy

I had forgotten about those two- weren't they being trained by Sgt Slaughter or something? Kind of like an individual basic training?

Sorry, I thought "he" was referring to Snake.

No prob- anyways- I feel like I remember another Joe that was a mercenary of some sort- I wish I had my GI Joe collector's guide- but that's still packed...
