I’ve been listening to old episodes of What’s on Joe Mind and realized how good we had it for a few years. I got into collecting around 2012 and went to my first and only JoeCon in New Orleans, and man was that awesome. I always wanted to go back and actually talk to people but with deployments and moving, I just never got the chance. I loved going to Walmart, Target, Walgreens, and CVS and being able to find POC figures. We had Renegades which I loved, and the build up to the movie PLUS awesome figures coming out of the Club, and a fun Joe podcast every week. It was an AWESOME tone to be a Joe fan. Ahh, the good ole days

Yep, never imagined I'd look at 2012 as 'the good ol' days' but it is true.

It's nice to know some people actually got into Joe in 2012, gives me some hope for the future. I assumed we were all "old-timers" from the 80's line.

What I miss about that time was the hunt for toys. I remember around X-mas in 2010, when I drove in 1 hunt, to about 9 different Ross stores in my area, and at the last store, I found the "Ross Exclusive" Green Range Viper with the Cobra whirlwind guns.
I remember, that I could go about 1.5-2 miles down 1 road (Barrett Pkwy) and hit up a Tuesday Morning, Ross, Walmart, Toys r us, Target, 5 Below, Hobbytown USA, and Hobby Lobby for Joe's and Joe related product. Now I only go to Hobbytown USA for customs paint.

I’m still old. Lol. I just wasn’t collecting Joe figures till 2012. I had a ton when I was a kid back in the 80’s but gave them to my brothers when I got into the Marvel figures. I was really into X-men but they just never had the level of detail and articulation that Joes did. I still just go into my Joe room and look at all the figures and planes I have hanging from the ceiling. I love it. Once I retire from the military I’ll get a place that I can actually display ALL of my vehicles and stuff but for now I have to enjoy what I can. Just missing the good ole days of 2012 recently.

Yeah, man, being someone who got back into toys as an adult largely due to childhood nostalgia, it seems weird to now have nostalgia for the earlier years of my adulthood collecting, but then I realize I've been back into this shit since 2000 and that was damn-near 2 decades ago! I've been dicking around with kid's toys as an adult for longer than I ever did as a child. That's a strange and sorta unsettling realization.

Driving around Salt Lake to every Walmart I could to find the new 25th waves. The first few waves were easy to find, but later on they got harder and harder.
I remember in 2008-2009 driving to three Walmarts to find BATs, Eels and Snow Serpents because at the time I was army building.

I don’t have a lot of nostalgia for the hunt during the 25th years. I would hit 6-8 stores and find nothing because of the collector pressure in San Diego at the time.
Things did get better and I do miss the thrill of the hunt in general. |
