I never got any of those, but Christmas '83 saw the original Joe HQ, the Dragonfly, the Skystriker, and a bunch of Crystar the Crystal Warrior items (the castle and the dragons) under my tree. That was a good year.

1986. One of my all time favorites. Woke up to find a huge box with a terrordrome in it. Played with it all day using the tree as alpine made his way down to infiltrate. Sadly i was young and dumb enough to trade it to a friend a year later for a hampster in a cracked fish tank.
The hampster died 2 weeks later. Smh As far as X-mas and large Joe playsets, never happened for me. The largest/spendiest toy-stuff I ever got was the aforementioned Jetfire (my older bro got Omega Supreme that year) and a Snake Mountain (Grayskull showed up on my b-day). For some reason my whole family (including grandma and an aunt) thought I loved all things He-man, despite me never asking for much MOTU-related. They mostly ignored my Joe requests, but did listen to my fevered T-former dreams. Weird how that works. |

Does Fort America count??? Lol I asked just about every year for one of the big 3 to no avail. By the time I was old enough to make a Christmas list I just don't think my parents were going to spend the kind of money on one single toy because they had 3 of us to buy for. My older bro on the other hand got things like Castle Greyskull, Snake mountain, Boulder hill and a bunch of others that got handed down to me. I did get some amazing stuff like the Tomahawk which will always be one of my all time favorite toys. Each year I would get a bunch of figures and two or 3 vehicles along with TF MOTU and TMNT.
I do remember a few of my friends got some of the bigger playsets like the MCC, 92 HQ which was great because just about every kid in our neighborhood was into Gijoes and we would have epic battles in the back yard.

I remember the year my brother got the MCC and I got the Rolling Thunder. I also remember the year I got the 1992 Headquarters. I love that thing. I’m still amazed how many times hasbro reissued it.

I got the Joe HQ, must have been Christmas of 1983. For my birthday that year, so a few months earlier, I received the Guns of Navarone playset. And many years earlier, I got the Death Star for Christmas. Those three were pretty much my only play sets. I did have a few of the vehicles, but no other play sets. I wouldn't have even asked for the Flagg.

I got the Terror Drome for Christmas one year, it was amazing. I believe I got it through relatives and we had to cart it back home in the car somehow, which was a packing adventure all its own.
The only other really big Joe vehicle/set I got was the Rolling Thunder, which I also really liked. |

78/79 Star Wars Death Star Playset. Love the Trash compactor! 82- Castle Grayskull and GI Joe MoBaT 83-GI Joe HQ and my brother got the Fortress of Fangs. Was either the HQ or the Sky Striker, I wanted both. I think my parents chose wisely. I now own 1 vintage, mint restored Sky Striker and every modern one save the Sky Patrol vac metal one from the club. I think the HQ and ljn’s FoF are both very under rated playsets. 84- WHALE, Rattler, and Water Moccasin, my Dad must have had a good year because my brother and I each got one. That’s why my restored WHALE in my Flickr page has unbroken veins. I had 4 to pick from. 85- GI Joe Tactical Battle Platform. (Stupidly told my Dad that I didn’t want the Flagg). Still love that Battle Platform. Good place to finally use the naval guys. 86- Cobra Terror Drome for my brother and I to share. Night Raven just for me. Played with that thing a lot! My little brother did get Snake Mountain and Boulder Hill but since they weren’t mine my memory was foggy as to what year. I recall I got the Rhino the year he got Boulder Hill, and we both got the Firecracker.

The largest toy I got for Christmas was the Tactical Battle Platform... and I loved it! It was my base!
It wasn't until my first wife passed away in 2015 that I was able to use the money she left me to buy the Flagg, Terror Drome, MCC and Defiant. I recently restored my Tactical Battle Platform to it's former glory and still love it because it was the largest playset I had as a kid.
