I got tired of the back and forth and asked look what will you take for it, then work something out from there but when I get the answer of one dollar at that point it seems stupid for him to list a 6 day auction with a obo on it only to come down a dollar. just list it as a buy it now for full price you want. obviously no one was hot to buy it because it had 0 bids. i'm the guy who is willing to deal with ya so lets work something out.
the item was incomplete and damaged, wasn't worth full retail like he wanted. my offers were fair. I've bought a ton of things at the buy it now price and never entered a obo offer. if I think what you got is worth that price i'm not going to try and beat you up over it. but hey that's just me. I agree a dollar is a dollar and dollars add up. but in this case its just silly to be like i'll only come down a dollar. then tell me that. don't keep declining my offers. could have messaged me and went hey if you want it this is what i'll do if you really want to sell it. in the end I bought someone else's item that was in better shape for slightly more just because I wasn't giving him the satisfaction of him thinking see after all that you still bought it anyway idea. |

Any body getting hit with the return policy scammers? Has eBay fixed that nonsense?

I'm not familiar with this one. What's the scam?

Not so much a scam as an exploit. Someone buys your item, when they receive it they say it isn’t what they thought it was, or it wasn’t as described. They then try try to shake you down for a full or partial refund. If that fails, they file a complaint with eBay & PayPal & get all of their money back (shipping included). There’s no real protection for the seller if the buyer doesn’t send the item back ( the seller has to pay the return shipping).
So someone can bid the item up at the last minute to ensure they win. File for a “no questions asked refund” & get the item for the free, or if they are feeling charitable for the starting bid price. |

eBay is most responsible. I think they tried & failed to be a competitor to Amazon, & forgot their niche in the process. They applied rules to all sellers that only big volume sellers can tolerate. For me, it’s a last resort for selling & buying since every transaction feels like a high risk gamble.

is there a decent place to buy and sell anymore. ebay has its risks but if I shop outside a place with "protection" I take the same risks of being scammed and no corporation to settle the dispute.
I like buying off craigslist and meeting the person face to face. being 6'6" 220lbs people think twice about screwing me over face to face lol but there are several vintage toy dealers here in town and they scoop everything up on craigslist because they can sit on the internet all day and surf for deals. its funny bc I go in the store and be like craigslist...yep, thought so kinda thing. then other times we will talk about things we bought and they ask me, you get that on craiglist...yep, thought so. so sometimes there is a bidding war there to lol its funny |

Just about every area has a "Will buy your old toys" hustler on craigslist. I was talking to a guy about that as I was buying some action figure stuff at a garage sale. I said they won't pay hardly anything because they are all about reselling and he said he knows because he did that once, too. And I asked if he had many takers and he said, yeah some, even someone who scoffed at his low offer later called him back and took it. If people want cash and want stuff gone that much, it's a workable "racket".

For my auction, what I see happen is the one bidder bids multiple times for the same item. Not sure if the whole idea is to scare off other bidders by telling them if they want it, they'll have to bid more than the opening bid.
I also get a lot that win and almost immediately ask me to cancel. It's annoying. Last edited by LeeMannRussell; 11-11-2018 at 06:20 PM.. |
