Over the years there have been quite a few Oktober Guard figures produced by Hasbro/Joe Club. Frankly, enough figures to launch a full action figure line, even enough to have a throwback O-ring line along with a ME one. There are even more customs that could be easily copied. The Russian/Eastern European toy market is unknown to me, but it seems like it could be an idea with legs.
Since the molds are already finished (available?), the IP is fleshed out, and a few bad guy options are available (Cobra/Joes/Red Laser/what have you), why not? Someone get a Russian license from Hasbro and give it a go. It is a brilliant idea! Brilliant! |

considering the current state of Russian/West relations vis-a-vis the alleged Russian interference in Western democracies, the Russian support for the al-Assad regime in Syria, the Russian attempted murder of a former intelligence officer in the UK and a subsequent attempt to interfere in the investigation by hacking the OPCW and the UK government lab at Porton Down, not to mention Russia's provocative fly-bys of UK airspace and their illegal invasion and annexation of Crimea, their support for anti-government rebels in eastern Ukraine and their shooting down of a Malaysian airliner...
I can't see that happening. A better idea would be for them to license a UK or European toy company to make a new Action Force line. |

And, as evidenced above, considering how willingly people will believe one side of the story despite the lack of evidence and questionable basis for some of the claims, and despite our countries doing the same type of meddling in elections elsewhere and provoking conflict in other sovereign nations like Syria, it's unlikely the political climate in America or the UK would be receptive to Hasbro selling a line in Russia.
There are too many gullible people that would be convinced they should boycott Hasbro if Hasbro were to expand their business into the Russian market in that way. Rather than recognizing that every country is up to the same antics (and some of the actions our media claims are Russian in origin probably aren't), so business opportunities should be business opportunities regardless, everything get politicized unnecessarily. Too many of us are comfortable accepting the narrative our political and media machine have fed us to keep us hating Russia like it's still the Cold War. Well, I wish we could trade the Cold War politics for the Cold War toys. They were much more fun. |

I could be very wrong but I would guess that not all but some Russians see themselves as the good guys. I could see it working.

ARAH was ahead of its time, putting women in combat roles, collaborating with our Cold War opponent when necessary to defeat a greater threat like Cobra. It's funny how G.I.Joe in the '80s was progressive in ways that today's progressives no longer appreciate or value. It's like everything's flipped upside down and now the regime-change war-mongering of the neo-cons has been bought into by mainstream media and many of those who used to be the party that was against war and for peace. At the same time, a portion of the other party that used to be driven by neo-cons has moved to more libertarian non-interventionist philosophy. Things have truly gone topsy-turvy.
Yet in all of this, some of us have maintained the ability to separate reality from our escapist hobbies and can appreciate cool ideas like an expanded, even modernized, Oktober Guard line. I would love to see a series of many different countries' military special ops teams represented in 3.75" form, even if they're refactored into imaginary nomenclature like Oktober Guard to make it easier to market globally (i.e., in America and the UK where a portion of the population has been taught to crap a brick at the mere mention of "Russia"). |

Frankly, they should also give the keys of the mold vault to Takara and let them make a Japanese Defense Force line. Maybe they should be based around honest to goodness Bushido, or fighting mutagenic terrors or whatnot. New head sculpts are all they really need.
Cobra being a universal villain creates conflict for any market such a line could be marketed. The Joes can always guest star. Last edited by Bubbavader; 10-08-2018 at 09:37 PM.. |
