Sure, why not? They can have a new kickstarter every year to take the place of the FSS. A lot can be accomplished using a few torsos and making the vests and web gear unique to one or two characters. They'll make up for the individuals with all the color combinations they'll have for the troop builders. The fans really have no place to bitch about repaints as that's all we've had for the past 11 years anyway. Subcontracting would be the smartest thing Hasbro could do. Keeps the name alive and really has no risk for Hasbro.

When I first saw this thread I thought YES! After reading some your comments, I think you make compelling arguments. I’m someone who has been making MTF joe customs and I have to admit that the repetitive part selection is growing old and people are tired of seeing the same thing painted different ways. With that said, I think there is a chance Marauder could pull it off and Ford has a good perspective. I hope to one day see a hasbro/MTF/BFS collaboration on joes because the product would be phenomenal and I’d pay FSS prices for a superior product.

I don't think it would be a good idea.
1) People always complain about parts reuse with Hasbro and FP. MTF has one basic male body with optional forearms and lower legs. The female parts options are slightly better with added t-shirt torso option. Now go through all the ME Joes put out by Hasbro and the Club and imagine all the male characters with basically one body. 2) Aside from forearms, lower legs and heads, MTF bodies aren't readily compatible with ME Joes. 3) The main point of doing official product would be packaging and file cards. MTF doesn't do either of those. 4) Manpower. The Gun Runners are busting their asses to fill the orders the are getting now. Adding another major long term project could end up setting them back.

I think it could work. They could set up a club like Mattycollector had with MOTUC. Of course it would be slow going getting to a lot of loved characters, but it would be possible. Expensive for us? Yes. Possible for MTF to hypothetically do it? Yes.
Just think, by the time Hasbro would think about such a license to produce the toys, MTF will have all current and upcoming molds, bucks, heads, dio pieces, weapons etc to work with. So contract ops, dogs, WWII......not just Valkyries and the standard cloth or no cloth bodies. Could be quite doable in my opinion.

They would have to do new tooling. If they only used their pre-existing tooling (even with all the upcoming and rumored projects they have), do you want to pay a premium price for a figure you could build yourself just because Hasbro will let them call it GI Joe? There would have to be a unique component to it to be worth the price it would cost.
Again, I think the best bet is MJ and Crew doing the loaded marauders with a wink-wink-nod-nod to Joe characters.

I think MTF is busy enough with their own business and wouldn't take Hasbro up on that offer unless it either came with some form of funding or staff support. Just a guess though.
So hypothetically, one way it might work is if Hasbro allows them to fund the figures via Kickstarter, gives them access to all the existing modern era tooling and molds, plus allows them to use any MTF parts, plus Hasbro gives them a limited "budget" to have Hasbro produce a few new molded parts each year and allows them to choose which figures they build from 1982-2000s back catalog. I think that's basically what the Club did with Hasbro plus the added Kickstarter element and MTF also has their own parts to add into the mix. I could see this enabling MTF to deliver a 12-pack each year for several years, and given what remains of even just the first generation ARAH figures, there's a good mix of repaints and figures with new molded parts that they could create. Something that enables them to use the allowance from Hasbro to deliver a few new figures and a few repaints each year separately alongside their own MTF product line. We already pay ~$40 per figure from the Club, which is more than enough to get a good quality product as MTF has proven can be done with a much lower price tag. In addition to delivering the many ARAH figures not yet made in modern era, they could also start to "re-do" the older 25th-style modern era figures with the much nicer MTF parts that already exist, which would probably appeal to many of us and would be an easy, low-cost revenue stream to counterbalance the figures that require new molded parts or tooling. |

Oh I agree guys, they are busy etc etc....I'm just saying it would be possible. Expensive, time consuming, new tooling stuff like that... but possible. Just fun to think about.
I priced out a few recently and its around 45 bucks to outfit a MTFer to make it into a Classic Joe.

This would never ever happen. Derryl Depriest has stated a few times how they would only license out the IP to companies that would create products in size and form different than what Hasbro does.. IE, no 3.75/4", 6", 8", or 12" figures.

Well, whether or not Hasbro would agree, I do believe that MTF could make this work. Maybe, instead of doing it "Hasbro style", they could every so often offer just a one off, say a branded Snake Eyes or Clutch. And as they get more parts or Hasbro shares parts, they could do this on a regular basis and with constant parts availability, you might not always be able to buy the "exclusive" but you could at least get the same figure. This could be a win win for both companies.
