I saw this on the Yahoo news site this morning. Sounds like Toys R Us maybe capable of having a comeback! Good news? Bad news? What's your opinion?

It's not clear in what form.
I just hope it's not a seasonal thing like the FAO Schwartz "revival."

Let the giraffe die. Kill it if you have to.

There were already people trying to buy the IP/brand name in this auction and bring it back. Turns out the liquidators realized how valuable it was when they saw how many people were interested and decided to use it to go into business for themselves. The articles say the U.S. stores always had an operating profit every year. It was just the interest on the debt that sucked away the profits. With the debt gone, everyone knew it was a solid business. It will be back and that's a GREAT thing.
Fine print seems to say ALL the retail locations have been sold off, so I don't know how fast it can come back. Definitely the potential that it's only a seasonal thing. But it seems they'd be more interested in going bigger and bolder and going for the full store experience again. They will have huge media promotion for the grand reopening so that will help them relaunch successfully. Of course who knows who the buyers will be, and whether it will end up looking more like a Go Calendars and Toys store than the old TRU. |

With all the retail locations sitting empty in this country, they could probably get a good deal if they wanted to come back full-time. But it'd probably make more sense financially to be a seasonal pop-up store since that's when the vast majority of their sales came.

Let it come back. I enjoyed taking my grandson there on the weekends and watch him have fun with all of the new toys.

Great News. I am curious to know who the buyers are. If Isaac Larian was envolved last I heard TRU bankruptcy lawyers refused his bid of like a half billion to keep a bunch of the stores open.
