And all the employees will have the same senority and low wages so that might save some on the overhead costs.
I would love for TRU to come back in the US. Would always hit one up whenever I went down there as a kid with my parents. Back in the 80s, going into TRU gave me the same feeling of going to Disneyland. It was so big and had so much stuff.

The problems with TRU were financial and experiential as a whole. While it was de facto the only "toy store" it was far from the only place to purchase toys.
So to succeed TRU has a narrow path and I see it two ways. If you can carry and fund the things that Target/Walmart can't/won't that's one way to do it but those things still need an audience. So more importantly - TRU has to become a destination, a place, something more than just a commoditized place to buy toy stuff. |

We in Canada have been lucky that ToysRUs Canada is still around (even if it's been around 5 years since they've had GI Joe anything). I really hope it makes a comeback in the USA. The world is way better with TRU than without.

It is still open in some parts of Asia (at least in Parts Unknown). Last time I was stateside (July) I saw a few locations. Each was rather empty but they still had the lights on.

This is going to sound just plain selfish but I’m really hoping they can reaquire their old real estate. My local TRU had been my go to spot since I was a born. That was an emotional loss. 1010 WINS reported today that they no longer own their old locations. I’m hoping they can work something out. I’d think I’d cry with joy if I could stand in the old spot again and buy a toy.

There were already people trying to buy the IP/brand name in this auction and bring it back. Turns out the liquidators realized how valuable it was when they saw how many people were interested and decided to use it to go into business for themselves. The articles say the U.S. stores always had an operating profit every year. It was just the interest on the debt that sucked away the profits. With the debt gone, everyone knew it was a solid business. It will be back and that's a GREAT thing.
Fine print seems to say ALL the retail locations have been sold off, so I don't know how fast it can come back. Definitely the potential that it's only a seasonal thing. But it seems they'd be more interested in going bigger and bolder and going for the full store experience again. They will have huge media promotion for the grand reopening so that will help them relaunch successfully. Of course who knows who the buyers will be, and whether it will end up looking more like a Go Calendars and Toys store than the old TRU. The US stores were profitable. I am worn out of correcting people who drank the “Toys don’t sell anymore” Kool Aide. I just hope that the new outfit feels like the old locations. Long live isle 7C.

It’s hard to put into words how much I am hoping to be able to buy Ep IX stuff at one next holiday season, and Joe stuff whenever they finally put out a movie and some product.
The world needs more good things. I hope this will be one of them again. |

Check your Target stores. Some already have TRU's "True Heroes" items under "Hero Force."
Old TRU stores re-opening is very, very unlikely. Read this: Chaos in Toyland
