I know both the comics and cartoon series made a point of Joe medics being pacifists, but realistically, I don’t think that would fly in an elite counter-terrorism unit. For me, while the medics are on the team to exercise their primary skills when needed, I think they would have to assist in laying covering fire and even fill other mission oriented roles. Every Joe team member had a variety of skills and essential training, so it makes sense the medics would also. What is the general consensus of everyone else? Do you adhere to the ARAH canon where they are only medics, or do you see them as a part of the team with more advanced combat medical training?

I know after several tours over to Iraq and Afghanistan that combat medics typically carry side arms. The Red Cross on the FLA don't mean shit those bastards trying to shoot ya. Lost a good friend back in 04 by sniper fire after he went to rescue another downed man. I guess the real question is what scenario your in and what the TTP's are that are brought forth in your battle plan or CONOP.

I kinda always followed the canon. Besides Lifeline doesnt exactly blend in on the battle field.

Did they make an issue of Doc and Lifeline being pacifists in the comic? I don’t recall it being mentioned.
I guess if there’s a world war going on and they need everybody they can get you might be able to pull a Desmond Doss, but you’re not ending up on a spec ops team if you’re not willing to pull the trigger. Also, Lifeline’s figure came with a goddamn .45... just saying....

Lifeline came with a gun originally - the pacifist thing never stuck with my Joe play. I made sure he always had access to his handgun! Sometimes even keeping it in his medical case.

Although the pacifism angle is great for storytelling drama, it doesn’t work in the real world. Lifeline is my favorite Joe, and in my various Joe-verses he uses weapons. Sometimes it’s a pistol, others it’s a PDW or SMG. I thought the rifle included with the 30th Lifeline was cool, but impractical for him to use and carry his gear. So, I gave him a Marauders backpack and then he doesn’t have to lug around that med box.

Special Missions issue 4 Lifeline is definitely portrayed as a pacifist, and uses Aikido to defeat Horrorshow. The Rice Krispies mail in Lifeline had different legs with no holster.
