Doc's whole file card and background is messed up. I think they got "Chaplain's Assistant" mixed up with "Chaplain." As a "Chaplain" Doc would be an officer (like a Captain) and would also be a non-combatant. However, a Chaplain's Assistant is like a Chaplain's Bodyguard who IS a combatant. That's why on my custom Doc file card, I have Doc listed as a Chaplain, not a Chaplain's Assistant.
So, in my Joeverse, Doc (who pulls double duty as Chaplain) is a non-combatant. However, Lifeline (in my Joeverse) is a USAF Pararescue who carries an M16 w/ 203 Grenade Launcher. And as far as Lifeline's suit not matching the battle field, that could be said for at least half the Joes - think Airtight and Blowtorch (bright yellow), Bazooka (red jersey), etc. Jason |

I thought life line came with a gun ( if i'm wrong please correct me). I always thought that if they had to they could fight in a pinch.
Edit: He does have a gun, both original and 30th. I know in Sunbow he is a pacifist but that doesn't make sense since he comes with guns.

My medics are shooters when duty calls for it, especially Med-Alert.

This is a good topic. I see doc as primarily a doctor, not that he’s opposed to combat, just that he’s the go to guy for medical treatment. And he’d probably pick up a gun as quickly as needed when he had to. As for lifeline, the pacifist stuff didn’t sit well with me. And where doc looks like somebody you might see on MASH, lifeline looked different, maybe more combat like gear. I was glad they included guns with the poc version.

Wasn't there a comic where Doc tried to protect a few injured Joes from Destro, but would not, or could not pick up a gun?

Issue 11 Doc's first appearance:
" The Geneva Convention says I can't fire a weapon but it don't say a thing about snowballs!" Doc. Special Missions issue 4 Lifeline is definitely portrayed as a pacifist, and uses Aikido to defeat Horrorshow. The Rice Krispies mail in Lifeline had different legs with no holster.

Great topic! While I always pictured Doc as the Joe's primary MD he would be more apart of a Mash unit and typically away from the battlefields but would essentially be able to use a weapon If he had to. Lifeline I picture more in the pacifist role probably because of Sunbow pushed the idea so heavily. I really liked the Lifeline figure and how he was portrayed in the cartoon. I often used him as a Decoy much like Beachhead did in The Arise Serpentor arise episode.
