As far as ARAH goes:
Doc I see as the Joes general doctor and surgeon if the wounded make it back to headquarters. Since he doesn't end up on the battlefield he doesn't need to shoot anybody. Lifeline to me is search and rescue and can provide medical attention on site if needed. He shouldn't need to use a weapon much. Stretcher is my combat medic, he is the one doin the savin while shootin. Also Stalker and Falcon have secondary medic specialties, so I usually just use one of the in combat situations. |

Doc's filecard says he's a pacifist. Lifeline's pacifistic tendencies are only in the cartoon and comic and fly in the face of not only his handgun accessory, but also the figure itself who has another gun moulded on his leg and a damn knife.

As a former Army Medic I received all the combat training that the infantry did
I carried a full kit , M9 and M4. Also carried all my medical gear as well I always use Lifeline more like an 18D, special forces medic. Others would be more like pararescue |

Doc's whole file card and background is messed up. I think they got "Chaplain's Assistant" mixed up with "Chaplain." As a "Chaplain" Doc would be an officer (like a Captain) and would also be a non-combatant. However, a Chaplain's Assistant is like a Chaplain's Bodyguard who IS a combatant. That's why on my custom Doc file card, I have Doc listed as a Chaplain, not a Chaplain's Assistant.
So, in my Joeverse, Doc (who pulls double duty as Chaplain) is a non-combatant. However, Lifeline (in my Joeverse) is a USAF Pararescue who carries an M16 w/ 203 Grenade Launcher. And as far as Lifeline's suit not matching the battle field, that could be said for at least half the Joes - think Airtight and Blowtorch (bright yellow), Bazooka (red jersey), etc. Jason |

Definitely shooters. Delta medics, SEAL medics (think Marcus Luttrell), Army Special Forces Medical Sergeants, and Navy Hospital Corpsmen (especially ones assigned to SOF Marine units such as Force Recon and MARSOC) all carry weapons. If a medic is on a mission with a small unit of SOF operators (maybe 4-8) then sure as hell they will be carrying a weapon of some kind. If you only have to rely on just a small group of people behind enemy lines then you will need all the firepower you can carry. There would be no "Hacksaw Ridge" scenario going on. Lives could depend on everyone being able to fight for their buddies when the sh!t goes down.
And I agree with the above statement in regards to Doc being a Chaplain's Assistant. The only way that could possibly happen is if Doc enlisted as a CA, spent a few years in the Army and not re-enlisting. He could have gone to college on the G.I.Bill, became a doctor and then re-enlisted in the Army. Seems far-fetched but would be the only way he could be both a Chaplain's Assistant and a Medical Doctor. |

Too bad that Stretcher showed up so late that he didn't get much time in the comics. He's the least well known of the Joe medics, but arguably has the best look IMO.

Anytime the cartoon talked about Lifeline being a pacifist that wouldn't even work on an armed helicopter, I laughed and thought about that big .45 his figure came with. My dad was a Marine in Vietnam, and knew a medic that carried a short-barreled shotgun and an M-14, so being a non-combatant isn't a pre-requisite.
