Last week, I saw that Walmart was re-release G1 Transformers. I was wondering why Hasbro hasn't given the same treatment to G1 RAH G.I. Joe? It seems G1 Transformers were also re-release once before.
Any thought on this? |

I honestly don’t know why Hasbro keeps sidelining GI Joe. I suppose you could look at the 25th series as a G1 release, and to me it looked like the line sold extremely well. It wasn’t until the ROC glut of oversaturation that we saw a continuation of sales in increasingly diminished supply until the line was predominantly carried by club exclusives and the TRU only smattering of 50th anniversary figures. I’m reluctant to see where they reorient the Joe brand, but I don’t think we’ll see another run like the original and the 25th-50th.

I predict a 6” line based on the 80s characters.
There is so much love out there for those classic characters, and Hasbro probably thinks that there are a ton of people out there who would buy a 6” Snake Eyes and Timber or a 6” Zartan, but who wouldn’t necessarily want additional, increasingly obscure characters in the smaller scale. Many of us would react badly to a change of scale and a reversion to the most famous characters, but like it or not, Hasbro pretty consistently seems to believe that is where the money is. Regardless of whether they’re right about it, their behavior implies a likelihood to think this way, IMO. (Note that I didn’t delve into the question of desirability, but only made a prediction.) |

Mold degradation maybe? Thats the only thing that would be stopping them. (the Hiss tank mold has to be destroyed by now)
Hasbro has done them so often (in non-vintage packaging) that it probably isnt worth it for them today. Notice with the Transformers actually do rarely keep re-releasing - but certainly not often! For example: Hot Rod was a TRU exclusive in 2K2 and in Japan twice since then. Devastator was in Japan some years back and this is Devs first North American re-release. The other molds are relatively new but the key is rarely re-released. The vintage boxes make them a hot seller no doubt. Walmart should do more but I predict Primes and Soundwaves and the sort that we have already seen. Hasbro molds have been mostly Hiss tanks and Polar Bears and everything else in the 25th/30/50th have surely been degraded. Why not re-release something that would instantly be a hot seller and would get the entire community talking about? Killer Whale hovercrafts? Its been assumed those are long gone. |

I hope we haven't seen the end of modern era just yet. There are plenty of ARAH characters still to remake, and we've come so far it would be a shame for them to drop a line that's given them a ton of molds and designs that can be re-used to create some of the other characters. We've seen that the figures can be nicely detailed and articulated when they put the effort into it. I see no benefit to changing the scale or size to anything larger than 4". It's less space-efficient, so less displayable, especially for an IP that has several hundred characters, and it's bound to be more expensive as well.
