I recently acquired a ‘93 Mace figure in a vintage custom lot. This character is one I didn’t even recognize existed, and after locating him on Yojoe.com and reading his file card, he seems like a pretty interesting character: a Joe intelligence asset that’s been operating deep undercover within the Cobra organization for years. I know he came out pretty late to be used in the original Marvel run of the comics, but was he ever used in any of the DD or IDW comics? I’ve read some of them, and they seem to have attempted to integrate a lot of the lesser known elements of the franchise into their stories at one time or another. I don’t ever recall seeing Mace used there, nor can I find any other information regarding him beyond the figure in its 1993 incarnation.
Are there any other characters out there that have a decent or interesting file card write-up that were just never used? Anyone you wish would get more attention?

Mace was a new version of Chuckles in my opinion.

Mace only made it onto one mission. Once he fired off that missile launcher connected to his helmet he broke his own neck. Joe has since discontinued use of this weapon.

Ha. Battle Corps Muskrat had the same helmet and after witnessing Maces death immediately threw it in the can and switched back to the floppy hat.
In all seriousness though I like Mace. He is basically a clone of Chuckles, but he is one of those C.O.P.S characters that made it in. Plus he is more than likely meant to be a Marine. The Marine Corps hymn is referenced on his filecard. But back to your greater point about Fanboy favoritism there is so many. I never watched much of the DiC series so I may have missed some fleshing out of characters. Hama is going through some with the new stories but it is all Dawn Moreno all the time so I lost interest in so much Ninja. Tracker, Stretcher, Colonel Courage, Sub-Zero.

I didn’t watch the Dic cartoons either, so I’m not familiar with who got screen time, but a lot of the drivers, like Rumbler, Armadillo & Steamroller got overlooked; as well as guys who were filling a roll that was already taken; like Downtown.

I’ve recently watched the Dic series out of curiosity; it’s comparable to the Sunbow series in a lot of ways. But I found any of Metal-Head heavy episodes to be irritating. The caricature that ended up being that character was nauseous.
And the figure design for Mace was not very good. The head sculpt reminds of a conservative talkshow host or something, so no thanks. It’s really fugly. But I was looking more at the details of his file card and his lengthy deep cover within the Cobra organization. Like, what role did he serve in Cobra - was he a trooper or someone higher ranking? I feel like that could have made a very interesting story arc in comic form. Or still could. Maybe he’s still undercover, collating intel reports to the day he’s found out or Cobra is defeated...

My favorite unused Joe is Rapid Fire...I mean come on he's carbon copy of Super Trooper (who in of himself is kinda lame) only Rapid Fire has a neon green helmet and vest as if he either had a death wish in choosing that gear, or slept with Hawk's wife and this was Hawk's way of...getting rid of him.

Recoil doesn't appear at all. Downtown appears in the final part of Operation Dragonfire in a brief non-speaking role. Dic sucked at included characters and giving them moments compared to Sunbow. I think less than 10 Joes have speaking parts in Operation Dragonfire.
