Then there are the Sonic Fighters who get listed as Sharpshooters on their filecards. (Take that with a grain of salt) I think they pair them up with a weapons system.

The Army typically has it ranked from Marksman (lowest), Sharpshooter and Expert (highest).

AFAIK there are three classes of soldier who use rifles regularly in combat:
riflemen —- use main battle rifle or carbine. literally the definition of average marksmanship, on average. (though of course some will just have a really high level of innate skill, or spend a whole bunch of time on the range and get surprisingly good.) marksmen —- use accurized, scoped variant of main battle rifle in infantry context. due to specialized variant of standard weapon and their special training, can shoot further and more accurately than the rest of the infantry unit. providing a niche weapons capability to the squad/fire team/etc in much the same way that a grenadier does. sniper—- uses special weapon with special ammo at super long range, solo or in pairs. highly trained not just as shooters (where they are >>>>>>>>> most marksmen), but in fieldcraft and camouflage to a very high degree too. altogether a QUALITATIVELY DISTINCT SKILL from just being a good shot, in the same way being a classically trained pianist is different from memorizing a couple guitar licks on a strat. saying good marksmanship compares to sniping is like saying all guitar players automatically can play world class piano without necessarily having even touched one, ‘cause it’s all just strings and vibrations, man... |

I would consider a "sharpshooter" to be anyone who could get the "job done", quickly and accurately - from a distance.
Lots of good names already mention and all the "specialists" have covered. But you can think "outside the box" and pick some other guys who can probably get it done: 1. Snake-Eyes - because...reasons. (its Snake-Eyes!) 2. Tunnel Rat - stealth, scoped rifle (night scope with range?) 3. Hit & Run - in one of the Special Missions comics he was doing some ranged ops with a scoped M16. 4. Ambush - probably 5. Crazy legs - maybe 6. Rampart - why not 7. Big Ben - Euro bad ass 8. Freefall - file card talks him up Great thread. |

Also,
1.Duke (experience and spec forces ops) 2. Any Joe who was a Navy SEAL, Torpedo, Wet Suit (they probably took some training in the SEAL Sniper school. If you think about it lots of the early Joes were all overly qualified bad asses if you dig into their file cards. |
