The Club has a few more months on their contract to sell 3.75 inch official Joes. It is not clear Hasbro will be selling 3.75 inch Joes in the future, but based on Derryls comments at JoeCon 2018 Hasbro cannot produce limited market figures like the Club can (the overhead costs are too high for too little profit). This would suggest that Hasbro will never produce the ME figures that many enthusiast would like. Both for their own profit and the “moral” imperative the Club has for supporting the Joe enthusiast community, the Club should really push the envelope on the official license they yet still hold.
Since time is short and a new Subscription Wave may not be possible (it does offer a chance to spread tooling costs over a line of figures), they should explore a weekly or biweekly crowd fund model to get maximum chance for new figures. Announce a new figure (or pair) and open the order window for a limited time. If a figures reaches enough orders it will be produced, if no, sorry guys, we tried, the fates were against us. To speed up the process, these would need to entirely be frankenjoes with no new tooling, but card art (from back in the day) already exists, so reuse that. This also open the chance for interesting things like stretch goals- ie Ninja Force snake eyes with stretch goal of Shadow Force paint job and further goal of entirely transparent plastic. From a productions standpoint this would allow for additional figures without mold swapping. And once a figure is backed, the “backer kit” can stay open until quite late in the game to allow for additional orders. As this might become a bit complicated, the Club may need to have boots on the ground in China to keep on top of things. The more projects they have at once the more these costs can be spread over multiple projects. Such a project could generate much enthusiasm and give them a chance to really blow things out. |

Wouldn’t hurt to try but that’s not the type of business Hasbro is. So I don’t really see this happening, ever.
For years I’ve been saying that G.I. Joe IS a Movie Toyline(and for some reason Collectors can’t except that). No major retailer (Target & Walmart) will not carry a toy line unless it has some form of media attached. With the 3rd Movie in limbo, who knows when we’ll ever see Joes on the peg.

That’s why it is important the Club do this ASAP. Hasbro will not ever offer this level of granular service for Joe.

I think it's well-known that the Club lacks the agility to do something like this on such short notice. After all, we're still waiting for FSS 7 to ship, and have been since...May?

They may also have real contractual obstacles to executing something like this, but I think their lack of time and the possibility of additional (low/no risk) income should make such a project attractive. In addiction, it makes for a interesting project incubator for Hasbro to test the market (no work, just maybe some rushed approvals). Enthusiasts get what they want, Club gets money, Hasbro gets money and real world petri dish feedback. Everyone wins.
But what do I know, I am just a Bubba. My MBA says otherwise, but that’s all I am. :p Last edited by Bubbavader; 06-26-2018 at 06:59 AM.. |

If I understand it correctly, the club has to ship all of their products by 12/31/18. With them already undertaking the "Final 12", they'll do good to get those done and shipped. I doubt there's enough time for them to get anymore approvals done thru Hasbro and into production. I think what we're gonna be lucky to get the ones they did preview at Con. I'm actually surprised they're releasing so much before the end. If they pull it off, I commend them for racing to the finish line.

Sometimes it seems like the Club would screw up a wet dream.

Ahhh the Club.
Look on an overall I like the Club if for nothing more than the fact that we get new product we clearly aren't getting at retail. And yes...some of the choices or designs the Club has made are...questionable. But on an overall I think the characters and designs we did get are more often better than not better. The down side of the Club is...was...is...they were often in wayyyyy over their heads. From quality control, to late shipping, to customer service, to security, to just general wtf are they doing? I mean didn't a Con suddenly last minute switch venues one year royally messing up people travel plans? So while I love that the club would make one last big push would happen. But honestly the Club was bad at handling everyday operations much less anything with a rushed deadline. Honestly I think The Club would have been better partnering with someone better at distribution maybe an online store like BBTS or brick stores like Toys R Us...sniff when we had a TRU...but I think we as collectors need to realize Joe is NEVER gonna be the same as it was. I think as much as we hated ROC that was the attempt to make it into a fresh property that would compete at retail again. It failed. Its follow up did no better. We're at a point where 12" Collectors were when 3.75" hit...where ever Joe goes or doesn't go next we're gonna have to live what we get at the inflated collectors costs, and maybe get the scraps off the table of whatever new version comes along. Honestly I don't think Hasrbo will ever stop trying to slip in chances to make money off of us old collectors. But we are never gonna be the focus of what they try to produce again. Hey...I don't really like it anymore than you do...but I guess its what we get. |

That's good to hear, although, I kind of wish they were required to ship before 12/31, might light a fire under em considering how slow they are sometimes. Either way, I'd say this final announced lineup is it. I doubt we'll see them try to squeeze out anymore approvals from Hasbro.
